Kajol Shines In Season 2 Of Disney+ Hotstar Show The Trial

Kajol Shines In Season 2 Of Disney+ Hotstar Show The Trial

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Trial: Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha, starring Kajol as Noyonika Sengupta, first came out on Disney+ Hotstar on 14 July 2023. Season 1 introduced audiences to Noyonika, a law graduate who had left her career to be a housewife. Her life takes a sudden turn when her husband, Rajiv Sengupta, played by Jisshu Sengupta, is arrested in a scandal involving sex and corruption.

Season One’s Story Setup

The first season showed Noyonika’s struggles as she returned to the legal world. She had to balance courtroom battles, family responsibilities, and the humiliation of being connected to Rajiv’s scandal. By the end of Season 1, her career was just beginning to rise, but her personal life was left shaken, with cracks appearing in her marriage and her image.

Season Two Begins

Season 2 of The Trial was released on 19 September 2025. It picks up three months after the events of Season 1. This time, the story shifts focus. Noyonika is shown as more confident and bold in her legal career. However, her personal life becomes even more unstable, with her marriage under pressure and her husband entering politics.

Politics And Public Image

Rajiv’s move into politics brings new complications. He faces opposition from Narayani Bhole, a strong political rival. This creates more media attention and scrutiny on Noyonika, turning the story into not just a family and courtroom drama, but also one about power, politics, and public image.

New Characters And Conflicts

Season 2 introduces new characters like Param Munjal, a new law firm partner who creates challenges at work. Narayani Bhole adds tension by raising outsider-versus-insider issues, especially about regional identity. These new conflicts expand the series beyond the courtroom, showing how justice also depends on politics and public opinion.

A Wider Canvas

Unlike Season 1, which focused heavily on courtroom drama, Season 2 explores new settings. The story now moves into living rooms, political rallies, and media debates. Supporting characters from Season 1 also get more importance, making the show more layered and broader in scope.

Strengths Of Season Two

Critics have praised Kajol’s stronger performance this season. Her character is more decisive, confident, and less hesitant. The dialogues are sharper, and the addition of political drama makes the story more powerful. The expansion of the show’s world adds depth and variety to the storytelling.

Weaknesses Of Season Two

On the other hand, some viewers miss the courtroom intensity that made Season 1 gripping. There are fewer dramatic trials and cross-examinations. Many cases are solved outside the courtroom or through emotional decisions. Some critics also feel that the writing is stretched, pacing is uneven, and a few subplots lack focus.

A Story Of Growth And Struggle

Season 1 laid the base with a scandal that pushed Noyonika back into her career as a lawyer. Season 2 builds on this by adding more politics, more betrayal, and tougher choices. The show is now not only about law and family but also about power and survival in public life.

Final Impression

Overall, The Trial Season 2 expands the story of Noyonika Sengupta. While it may have lost some of its courtroom drama edge, it makes up for it with bigger stakes, sharper dialogues, and Kajol’s commanding performance. For audiences, the new season delivers more drama, more politics, and more challenges that keep the story alive and engaging.
