Rishab Shetty’s highly anticipated film, Kantara 2: Chapter 1, continues to make waves at the box office. On its fifth day in theatres, the movie proved that strong audience support and positive word-of-mouth can drive massive collections, even when opening day bookings were not very high. Industry trackers and early estimates indicate that the film is on track to cross Rs 400 crore globally very soon.
On October 6, 2025, Kantara 2 recorded a net collection of Rs 31.25 crore in India, taking its total domestic earnings to Rs 256.5 crore. While this marked a 50% dip compared to Sunday’s earnings of Rs 63 crore, the figure is still significantly higher than several other popular releases this year. For instance, movies like Chhaava (Rs 24 crore), Saiyaara (Rs 24 crore), and Coolie (Rs 12 crore) earned much less on their first Mondays in theatres.
Kantara 2’s Monday collection is 10 times that of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (Rs 3 crore) starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, and 19 times higher than Dhanush’s Idli Kadai (Rs 1.6 crore), which also released around the same time. Comparisons with Salman Khan’s Sikandar (2025) are striking as well: Kantara 2 earned more on its first Monday than Sikandar made on its release day (Rs 26 crore).
The film is performing well across multiple languages. The original Kannada version earned Rs 11.5 crore, while the Hindi version contributed Rs 8.75 crore. The Telugu edition earned Rs 5.5 crore, and both Tamil and Malayalam versions earned Rs 2.75 crore each. In the Kannada market, occupancy rates grew throughout the day: morning shows started at 41.91%, but by night screenings, it peaked at 89.64%, showing strong audience demand.
Globally, Kantara 2’s total gross has reached Rs 362.75 crore already. The movie’s massive success is notable because it was made on a large budget of Rs 125 crore, compared to the first film’s Rs 16 crore production cost. Despite this, the prequel is likely to surpass Kantara (2022)’s lifetime collection of Rs 407.82 crore worldwide in less than ten days.
The film continues the story of the original blockbuster, exploring ancient folklore and divine mysticism. Besides Rishab Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah play key roles. Audiences appreciate the high production values, stunning visuals, and the action-packed storytelling that combines spirituality with human drama.
Kantara 2’s remarkable box office performance demonstrates the growing popularity of regional films across India and the world. It also highlights the impact of strong storytelling, cultural depth, and audience engagement on box office success.
As Kantara 2 continues its theatrical run, experts predict it will set new records and establish itself as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of 2025. Fans eagerly await the film’s continued success, making Rishab Shetty’s project a true pan-India sensation.
