KSrelief Highlights Global Humanitarian Challenges At UNGA

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) Supervisor-General Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah emphasized the urgent need to address global humanitarian challenges. Speaking at a dialogue session on the Humanitarian-Development-Peace nexus, Dr. Al Rabeeah highlighted that around 1.5 billion people currently live in fragile or conflict-affected environments worldwide. His remarks stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to respond effectively to humanitarian crises.

Dialogue With UNDP At UNGA

The dialogue session was co-organized by KSrelief and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The event brought together global experts, policymakers, and humanitarian leaders to discuss ways to bridge the gap between emergency response, long-term development, and peace-building. The session reinforced the need for integrated approaches to tackle complex humanitarian challenges.

KSrelief’s Global Impact

Dr. Al Rabeeah highlighted KSrelief’s extensive work around the world, noting that its partners have provided humanitarian assistance to more than 100 countries. The Centre focuses on achieving sustainable impact, rather than just short-term relief. By combining aid with long-term development programs, KSrelief aims to help communities rebuild their lives, improve livelihoods, and achieve self-sufficiency in the long run.

Strategic Partnership In Yemen

As an example of effective collaboration, Dr. Al Rabeeah cited KSrelief’s strategic partnership with UNDP in Yemen. This initiative has provided vocational training and business management skills to thousands of people, particularly women and youth. The program not only supports economic empowerment but also strengthens social protection systems and encourages peace-building activities. It has reached vulnerable groups, including displaced populations and people with disabilities, helping them access opportunities and improve their quality of life.

Promoting Peace And Security

The Humanitarian-Development-Peace approach emphasized by Dr. Al Rabeeah focuses on addressing the root causes of crises. By combining humanitarian aid with development programs and peace initiatives, KSrelief aims to create stable, resilient communities. This integrated approach helps prevent future conflicts, supports reconciliation, and provides vulnerable populations with the tools they need to live with dignity and security.

Call For Enhanced Cooperation

Dr. Al Rabeeah concluded by calling for stronger cooperation among nations and international organizations to tackle global humanitarian issues. He emphasized that multilateral efforts are essential to achieving meaningful results and ensuring that aid reaches those most in need. By working together, countries can support the Sustainable Development Goals, reduce poverty, promote peace, and improve the well-being of millions worldwide.

Sustainable Development Goals Focus

KSrelief’s commitment to sustainable impact aligns closely with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By investing in education, vocational training, social protection, and peace-building, the Centre contributes to several SDGs, including quality education, gender equality, reduced inequalities, and peace, justice, and strong institutions. Dr. Al Rabeeah emphasized that such programs help vulnerable communities recover, thrive, and participate fully in society.

The dialogue at the UNGA highlighted KSrelief’s global leadership in humanitarian aid and its efforts to create lasting impact. Dr. Al Rabeeah’s remarks underlined the importance of integrated approaches combining humanitarian relief, development, and peace-building. By promoting multilateral cooperation and sustainable programs, KSrelief aims to ensure that more people around the world can live in peace, security, and dignity, particularly those in conflict-affected and fragile environments.
