The “Kuwaiti Cultural Days in the UAE” commenced on Tuesday at the Abu Dhabi National Theatre and will run until September 18, displaying the richness of Kuwait’s cultural heritage and showcasing the strong connection between the UAE and Kuwait. This event is organized by the UAE Ministry of Culture in partnership with the Kuwaiti National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), in honor of Kuwait being named the Capital of Arab Culture and Media for 2025.
The delegation from Kuwait is led by Saad Al-Enezi, the Assistant Secretary-General of NCCAL for Administrative and Financial Affairs, and consists of over 20 members from the Kuwaiti folk troupe alongside eight administrative staff who will participate in various exhibitions and performances during the event.
The opening ceremony welcomed several distinguished guests, including Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority; Mubarak Al Nakhi, Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Culture; Jamal Al Ghunaim, Kuwait’s Ambassador to the UAE; and other senior officials from both countries. The event kicked off with an art exhibition followed by a showcase of publications and photographs celebrating Kuwaiti culture. Traditional songs and dances were performed by the Kuwaiti folk troupe, and a documentary highlighted the long-standing cooperation between Kuwait and the UAE.
Day two of the event will feature a lecture by Dr. Yahya Al Kandari focusing on Arabian horses, supplementing the exhibitions currently on display. The third day will be vibrant with musical performances from the Kuwaiti folk troupe, enriching the cultural program. Attendees will also experience a variety of visual art displays, lectures, and film screenings that reflect diverse aspects of Kuwaiti heritage.
Mubarak Al-Nakhi remarked that Kuwait’s designation as the Capital of Arab Culture and Media in 2025 reaffirms its crucial role in shaping the Arab cultural landscape. He also pointed out the historical and cultural affinities between the UAE and Kuwait, underlining the shared values and traditions that reinforce their cooperation.
Ambassador Jamal Al Ghunaim asserted that this event strengthens the bonds between both nations. He emphasized that Kuwait’s cultural institutions will persist in leading initiatives such as book fairs and theatre festivals, which contribute to cultural advancement throughout the Gulf and wider Arab world. Both Kuwait and the UAE continue to act as leading forces in promoting arts and culture in the region.
Saad Al-Enezi highlighted the steady growth of cultural cooperation between the UAE and Kuwait over the years, based on shared history, language, and traditions, extending beyond culture into the political, economic, and social spheres. The Kuwaiti Cultural Days initiative aims to celebrate this partnership while emphasizing Kuwait’s contributions to the Arab arts, literature, and music.
This event offers a platform for both nations to enhance cultural understanding and exchange, with attendees able to enjoy an array of activities such as traditional performances, visual arts exhibitions, lectures, and films. The program emphasizes the deep fraternal ties and mutual respect between the UAE and Kuwait, underscoring the importance of cultural diplomacy in fostering stronger regional relationships.
