Improved Rail Links Will Propel Johor's Economy, Says Lee Wern Yiing

Post by : Shakul

Lee Wern Yiing, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Johor Jaya, highlighted the significance of enhanced public transportation and rail systems in promoting Johor's economic development. During a campaign event for the Johor state elections, she emphasized that better transport connectivity would open up job opportunities, draw investments, and elevate the living standards in the region.

Transformative Rail Projects on the Horizon

Lee stated that Johor is entering a transformative phase marked by the initiation of key railway projects. She referenced the Electric Train Service (ETS), linking Johor to various regions in Peninsular Malaysia, along with the anticipated Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, projected to commence operations in six months.

Advantages of Enhanced Rail Connectivity for Johor

Lee articulated that improved transport will facilitate quicker and more efficient travel for workers, companies, and investors. Strengthened rail links will spur economic activities, enhance access to industrial zones, and solidify Johor Bahru’s status as an attractive investment hub.

Expansion of Public Transport with Southern Shuttle

The launch of the Southern Shuttle commuter service connecting JB Sentral, Kulai, Gemas, and Pasir Gudang also received Lee's endorsement. She pointed out that the Gemas–Pasir Gudang railway line, previously used exclusively for freight, now accommodates passenger trains, significantly enhancing statewide mobility.

Commitment to Cross-Border Collaboration

Andrew Chen Kah Eng, the Stulang assemblyman, stated that PH representatives would persist in tackling cross-border matters concerning Johor residents commuting frequently to Singapore. He asserted that stronger economic ties with Singapore would yield benefits for families, businesses, and daily travelers.

Focus on Governance Reforms

Former Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Yeo Bee Yin noted that the Unity Government has implemented critical reforms in governance over the past three years. She spotlighted initiatives such as the Fiscal Responsibility Act, modifications to the Audit Act, procurement reforms, improved child protection laws, and enhanced anti-bullying measures. Voters were urged to support ongoing institutional reforms in the upcoming Johor state elections.
