The Madinah Region Development Authority has reported a major increase in the use of shuttle bus services during Ramadan 1447 AH. More than 3.6 million worshippers used these services to travel to the Prophet’s Mosque.
This marks a 125% rise compared to the previous year, showing a strong shift toward public transport during the holy month.
To manage the large number of visitors, a fleet of 250 buses was deployed. These buses completed over 70,000 trips throughout Ramadan, helping ensure the smooth and organised movement of worshippers.
Officials said the demand for shuttle services was especially high during the last 10 days of Ramadan, when the number of visitors to the mosque usually peaks.
The increase in ridership highlights the growing importance of public transport in handling large crowds and improving access to key religious sites during important periods.
