Gunman Claims Six Lives in Mersin Shooting

Post by : Shakul

A tragic shooting in southern Turkey has resulted in the deaths of six individuals and injuries to eight more, as detailed by local media citing official sources. This violent event transpired on Monday evening in the Tarsus area of Mersin province.

Reports indicate that the alleged perpetrator first killed his ex-wife before proceeding to a nearby dining establishment. At this location, he fatally shot both the owner and an employee, escalating his violent spree into surrounding regions.

Three additional victims, including a shepherd and a truck driver, were later discovered deceased in the vicinity of the attack sites, according to local news outlets. The authorities have yet to publicly identify the suspect or clarify the motive behind these killings.

Following the assault, the gunman reportedly fled the scene. In response, Turkish police initiated an extensive overnight operation, deploying helicopters and specialized security units to track down the suspect.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan labeled the incident as a “horrific” act, expressing condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing a swift recovery to the injured.

Emergency services transported the injured to nearby hospitals, while security personnel cordoned off parts of the area to conduct their investigation. Authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses associated with the event.

This distressing incident has heightened worries regarding violent crime and public safety in the area, as police remain vigilant in their efforts to locate and apprehend the gunman responsible for the attack.
