New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to assess India’s preparedness in view of the ongoing West Asia conflict, with a focus on managing potential disruptions in energy supplies and essential imports.
Official sources indicated that the interaction will underline the importance of coordination between the Centre and states, reflecting the spirit of “Team India.” The aim is to ensure a unified and effective response to any emerging challenges arising from the geopolitical situation.
Chief Ministers from poll-bound states — Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal — along with the Union Territory of Puducherry, will not be part of this interaction due to the Model Code of Conduct. The Cabinet Secretariat is expected to engage separately with the respective Chief Secretaries.
The review comes amid heightened global tensions following the escalation of conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran since February 28. The developments have raised concerns over their possible impact on India, particularly in areas such as oil and fertiliser imports.
Prime Minister Modi has repeatedly stressed the need for preparedness while cautioning against panic, assuring that adequate fuel supplies are in place. The matter has also been discussed in both Houses of Parliament, with the government briefing political parties through an all-party meeting.
