Mohammed Abdullah bin Khater Al Shamsi has officially presented his credentials as the Non-Resident Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Republic of Panama. The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace, where he met with José Raúl Mulino, President of Panama. This marks a new chapter in the growing friendship and cooperation between the UAE and Panama across various sectors.
During the ceremony, Al Shamsi conveyed the greetings of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to President Mulino. He also extended greetings from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court. The UAE leadership expressed their best wishes for continued prosperity and development for the government and people of Panama.
In response, President José Raúl Mulino extended his greetings to the UAE leadership. He praised the UAE’s global reputation for progress, innovation, and international cooperation. The Panamanian President wished Al Shamsi success in his new role as ambassador and expressed his government’s readiness to support his diplomatic mission. Mulino also reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the partnership between the two countries for the benefit of both peoples.
The meeting served as an opportunity for both sides to review areas of existing cooperation and explore new prospects for collaboration. Discussions included expanding ties in trade, investment, education, tourism, and sustainable development. Ambassador Al Shamsi expressed the UAE’s commitment to deepening its engagement with Panama, noting that the two nations share similar visions for economic growth and stability.
Al Shamsi emphasized that the UAE sees Panama as a key partner in Latin America due to its strategic geographic position and open economic policies. He stated that the UAE is keen to increase trade exchanges, support joint ventures, and facilitate business connections that could benefit both countries. Panama’s role as an important maritime and logistics hub provides opportunities for the UAE’s private sector to explore partnerships in shipping, transport, and port development.
Both officials highlighted their countries’ shared commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection. They agreed that cooperation in renewable energy, water management, and green technology would help achieve long-term growth goals. The UAE’s success in clean energy initiatives such as Masdar and its leadership in global climate action were noted as examples of experience that could be shared with Panama.
In addition to economic and environmental cooperation, the two sides discussed enhancing cultural and educational exchanges. Ambassador Al Shamsi proposed developing academic partnerships between universities in both countries and increasing cultural events to promote mutual understanding. President Mulino welcomed the idea, noting that cultural exchange is a strong foundation for lasting friendship between nations.
Ambassador Al Shamsi expressed his honor in representing the UAE in Panama and reaffirmed his dedication to strengthening bilateral ties. He stated that under the directives of the UAE’s wise leadership, the embassy would work actively to expand cooperation, support mutual investment, and promote dialogue across political and economic platforms. He also thanked the Panamanian government for its support and hospitality during the official ceremony.
The diplomatic engagement between the UAE and Panama reflects both nations’ desire to enhance international partnerships built on respect and mutual benefit. Over recent years, the UAE has expanded its diplomatic presence in Latin America, aiming to foster collaboration in trade, logistics, energy, and tourism. Panama, known for its global maritime importance through the Panama Canal, shares with the UAE a vision of openness, innovation, and progress.
The presentation of credentials by Ambassador Mohammed Al Shamsi marks another step forward in UAE-Panama relations. Both governments expressed confidence that this appointment would further strengthen ties and create new opportunities for cooperation. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to work together for peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.
