Netanyahu Claims Iran Nuclear, Missile Programs Crippled by Air Strikes

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed that Iran no longer has the capacity to enrich uranium or produce ballistic missiles following 20 days of US-Israeli air attacks.

At a news conference on Thursday, Netanyahu said, “We are winning, and Iran is being decimated,” adding that Iran’s missile and drone arsenal is being heavily degraded and will eventually be destroyed.

He emphasized that the targets of the attacks were factories producing components for missiles and nuclear weapons. However, Netanyahu did not provide evidence to support his claim that Iran’s uranium enrichment capability has been eliminated.

Iran’s nuclear program had been under international negotiations, which collapsed, leading to the US and Israel launching air attacks on February 28. In response, Iran fired missiles at Israel and other Gulf nations and restricted tanker movement through the Strait of Hormuz.

Netanyahu stated that, although the conflict has so far been conducted through air strikes, a ground component is necessary. “There are many possibilities for this ground component,” he added, without providing further details.

On the question of US involvement, Netanyahu rejected any claims that he influenced the United States’ actions, saying, “Does anyone really think that someone can tell President Trump what to do?”

Regarding potential internal unrest in Iran, Netanyahu said it is up to the Iranian people to decide if and when to rise against their government.
