Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of State, held several bilateral meetings with senior officials from the Dominican Republic during the first World Governments Summit – Latin American and Caribbean Dialogue (WGS-LAC Dialogue) in Punta Cana on October 2 and 3.
Discussion With Dominican President
Al Kaabi, joined by representatives from UAE organisations and businesses, met with President Luis Abinader to explore opportunities for strengthening UAE-Dominican Republic relations. The discussions focused on economic collaboration, investment opportunities, and long-term strategic partnerships between the two countries.
Signing of Key Memorandum
During the high-level meeting, President Abinader and Al Kaabi witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the World Governments Summit and the Centro de Análisis para Políticas Públicas. This MoU reflects the growing cooperation between the UAE and the Dominican Republic, extending collaboration to the wider Latin America and Caribbean region.
Focus on Economic and Strategic Sectors
Al Kaabi also met Victor Bisonó, the Dominican Republic’s Minister of Industry, Commerce, and MSMEs. The discussions highlighted expanding cooperation in strategic economic sectors, with an emphasis on creating opportunities in fast-growing industries to support sustainable economic growth in both nations.
Education and Cultural Exchange Initiatives
The meetings also explored educational programs and cultural exchanges designed to enhance professional expertise, promote mutual understanding, and strengthen people-to-people ties between the UAE and the Dominican Republic. Both sides emphasised the importance of equipping youth and professionals with skills for the modern economy.
UAE Commitment to Regional Partnerships
Al Kaabi’s participation at the inaugural WGS-LAC Dialogue underscores the UAE’s commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships across Latin America and the Caribbean. The UAE aims to expand cooperation in key sectors, including trade, education, culture, and technology, to drive mutual prosperity and long-term collaboration.
WGS-LAC Dialogue Brings Leaders Together
The WGS-LAC Dialogue convened leaders from government, business, technology, philanthropy, and thought leadership across the Latin American, Caribbean, and MENA regions. The event provided a platform to explore shared priorities, unlock collaboration opportunities, and strengthen economic, educational, and cultural ties between the regions.
The minister’s engagement at WGS-LAC reflects a strategic approach to building enduring partnerships. By fostering dialogue and signing agreements, the UAE and Dominican Republic are laying the groundwork for long-term collaboration that benefits both nations and encourages regional connectivity and growth.
