Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior of the Sultanate of Oman, met today in Tehran with Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The meeting reflected the deep and longstanding relationship between the two nations and reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue and cooperation on matters of regional and international importance.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation between Oman and Iran across various fields, particularly in areas related to security and regional stability. The two officials highlighted the shared interest of their countries in enhancing collaboration that supports peace and prosperity in the Gulf region. Discussions also touched upon ways to expand coordination between relevant ministries and institutions in both nations to strengthen mutual trust and understanding.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange views on key regional and international developments. Sayyid Hamoud and Larijani discussed ongoing geopolitical changes in the Middle East and the broader international landscape. They underscored the importance of constructive dialogue and diplomatic engagement in resolving regional challenges and fostering peaceful coexistence among neighbouring states. Both sides agreed that cooperation based on mutual respect and shared interests remains vital for maintaining long-term regional stability.

Oman and Iran reiterated their commitment to continuous consultation and coordination on issues of mutual concern. The two leaders emphasized that close cooperation not only enhances bilateral relations but also contributes to maintaining regional security. They acknowledged the role of both nations in promoting dialogue and diplomacy, particularly in the face of ongoing challenges affecting the Gulf and surrounding areas. The discussions reaffirmed the shared vision of both countries to act as bridges for peace and understanding in the region.

The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials from both countries. On the Omani side, the delegation included Maj. Gen. Abdullah bin Ali Al Harthy, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Operations, and Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashel Al-Maskari, Head of the GCC and Regional Neighbourhood Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Iranian officials were also present to discuss mechanisms for future cooperation and coordination in regional security matters.

Earlier in the day, Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi arrived at Mehrabad International Airport in Tehran, where he was warmly received by Eskandar Momeni, Minister of Interior of the Islamic Republic of Iran, along with several senior Iranian officials. The reception reflected the friendly and cooperative ties between the two nations, which have been strengthened through years of diplomatic and cultural engagement.

The visit comes ahead of Oman’s participation as the “Guest of Honour” at the fourth meeting of the Interior Ministers of the member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), hosted by Iran. Scheduled to begin on Tuesday, the meeting will bring together regional ministers to discuss key issues related to internal security, economic development, and cross-border cooperation.

Oman’s involvement in the ECO meeting highlights its growing diplomatic influence and constructive role in promoting regional dialogue and stability. The Sultanate’s long-standing policy of balanced diplomacy and peaceful engagement continues to make it a respected partner in regional and international affairs.

The meeting in Tehran reaffirmed the deep-rooted relations between Oman and Iran, based on shared geography, history, and mutual respect. Both nations expressed confidence that their ongoing consultations would lead to greater cooperation in the years ahead. The dialogue serves as another step in Oman’s consistent diplomatic approach—encouraging peace, stability, and partnership throughout the Middle East.
