Post by : Mumtaaz Qadiri

The Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania held the first session of their political consultations in Nouakchott, marking a new step in strengthening diplomatic ties between the two friendly nations. The talks reflected the shared desire of both sides to deepen cooperation, explore new areas of partnership, and enhance coordination on regional and international issues. The meeting represents a milestone in the growing relationship between Oman and Mauritania, built on mutual respect and a common vision for progress and development.

The Omani delegation was led by Sheikh Faisal bin Omar Al Marhoon, Head of the Arab Affairs Department at the Foreign Ministry. On the Mauritanian side, the talks were chaired by Mohamed Hanchi El Kettab, Director General for Bilateral Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad. Both officials expressed their commitment to continuing dialogue and cooperation to further strengthen relations between their nations.

During the session, both parties reviewed the current state of bilateral cooperation and identified opportunities for expansion in several key sectors. Discussions focused on enhancing economic and investment relations, particularly in trade, energy, and infrastructure. Both sides agreed on the importance of encouraging business communities in Oman and Mauritania to explore joint ventures and projects that can contribute to sustainable development. The two nations aim to create a framework that supports investment exchange and strengthens private-sector participation in both countries.

The talks also highlighted the significance of cultural and tourism collaboration. Oman and Mauritania share deep-rooted Arab and Islamic traditions that form the basis for mutual understanding and cultural exchange. Both sides emphasized the value of organizing cultural events, exhibitions, and tourism promotion programs to strengthen people-to-people connections. By sharing experiences in heritage preservation and tourism development, the two nations hope to boost tourism flow and showcase their rich cultural heritage to the world.

In addition to bilateral topics, the session included an exchange of views on regional and international developments of mutual concern. Both delegations reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to dialogue, peace, and stability in the Arab world and Africa. They discussed ways to coordinate efforts within international organizations and enhance cooperation on issues such as sustainable development, security, and regional economic growth. The meeting also served as a platform to reaffirm the importance of diplomacy and partnership in addressing global challenges.

The meeting was attended by Jassim bin Eid Al Saadi, Head of Oman’s Mission to Mauritania, and Mohamed Vall Ould Ahmed, Mauritania’s Ambassador to Oman, along with several senior officials from both sides. Their presence reflected the strong diplomatic engagement between the two countries. Both sides expressed appreciation for the efforts made to enhance bilateral relations and agreed to continue holding such consultations regularly to monitor progress and implement agreed-upon initiatives.

Oman and Mauritania reiterated their mutual commitment to expanding cooperation in all areas that serve their peoples’ aspirations. The session concluded with an agreement to maintain coordination through diplomatic channels and to promote dialogue that supports peace, development, and prosperity in the Arab and African regions. Both nations emphasized that the political consultations mark the beginning of a new phase of strategic cooperation, built on trust, shared values, and a collective commitment to progress.
