The Special Olympics Oman team is participating in the Special Olympics MENA Regional Equestrian Competition. The event is being held in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, from 25th to 27th August 2025. This participation highlights Oman’s ongoing commitment to supporting athletes with intellectual disabilities and giving them a platform to develop and showcase their sporting talents. The event gathers competitors from across the MENA region, providing an opportunity for interaction, learning, and friendly competition.

Empowering Athletes With Intellectual Disabilities

Oman’s participation reflects a strong focus on empowering athletes with intellectual disabilities. By taking part in this competition, the athletes gain valuable experience and skills in equestrian sports. These opportunities help them grow in confidence and ability, while also allowing them to interact with peers from other countries. Oman’s involvement is a demonstration of how sports can serve as a tool for personal development, social inclusion, and recognition of the abilities of all individuals.

Raising Community Awareness

The Special Olympics Oman team also contributes to raising community awareness about the capabilities of individuals with intellectual disabilities. Their participation in such regional events educates the public and encourages wider acceptance, understanding, and support for athletes who may face social or physical challenges. By showcasing their talent, commitment, and achievements, these athletes inspire society to view disability in a positive and empowering way, highlighting the importance of inclusion and equality in sports and beyond.

List Of Athletes And Supervisors

The team from Oman includes six talented athletes: Suhail Al Manji, Thuraa Al Ghafri, Maithaa Al Busaidi, Omar Al Hamdani, Al Khalil Al Rawahi, and Fatima Al Harthy. These athletes are supported and guided by an experienced coaching and administrative team. The delegation is led by coach Moath Al Amri and supervised by Zamzam Al Alawi, ensuring that the athletes receive the right training, guidance, and encouragement before and during the competition.

Preparatory Technical Meeting

Before the competition began, the Special Olympics Oman delegation attended the championship’s preparatory technical meeting. This meeting was an important step to ensure the team was ready to participate effectively. Nabila Al Harthy, the National Director of Special Olympics Oman, attended the meeting to discuss key organizational and technical matters, including the overall competition program, event rules, and schedules. This preparation ensures that athletes can focus on their performance while following all the guidelines set by the organizers.

Promoting Fair Play And Sportsmanship

The technical meeting also highlighted the importance of active participation by athletes. Taking part in the events promotes the values of fair competition, respect, and sportsmanship. The Special Olympics program aims to encourage not only skill development but also ethical behavior, teamwork, and mutual support among athletes. Oman’s delegation is prepared to demonstrate these values on the regional stage, showing that the essence of competition is not just winning but also learning, sharing, and respecting others.

Equestrian Sports And Skill Development

Equestrian sports are a unique and challenging discipline that require patience, coordination, and discipline. For athletes with intellectual disabilities, training and competing in equestrian events helps develop focus, motor skills, and confidence. Oman’s athletes have been preparing for this event with guidance from their coaches, practicing techniques such as riding, balance, and handling horses safely. Their participation demonstrates both physical skill and mental determination, emphasizing that athletes of all abilities can excel in demanding sports.

Regional Interaction And Cultural Exchange

Participating in the MENA Regional Equestrian Competition gives Oman’s athletes a chance to interact with peers from different countries. This cultural and social exchange allows athletes to learn about diverse training methods, share experiences, and form new friendships. Such interactions enhance mutual understanding and respect among athletes from different backgrounds, strengthening the bonds of the regional Special Olympics community. The event is as much about cultural connection as it is about athletic achievement.

Commitment To Sports For All

Oman’s participation in this competition underlines the country’s dedication to promoting sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities. By providing structured opportunities and access to international competitions, Oman is supporting the growth of inclusive sports programs. These programs help athletes not only achieve their personal bests but also inspire others with similar challenges to pursue sports, build confidence, and enjoy the many benefits of physical activity.

Inspiring Future Athletes

The achievements and participation of these athletes inspire the next generation of Special Olympics participants in Oman. By watching their peers compete successfully on an international stage, young people with intellectual disabilities can see that their dreams are achievable. This inspiration motivates them to practice, participate, and work hard, knowing that dedication and support can lead to recognition and success, both locally and internationally.
