Oman’s national football team is set to play Qatar tomorrow, Wednesday, in the fourth round of the Asian play-offs for the 2026 World Cup. The match will take place at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium at Al Sadd Club, starting at 7:00 PM Oman time. A victory in this match is crucial for Oman to gain an advantage before facing the UAE national team on Saturday, October 11.
Experienced Leadership and Talented Squad
The Omani team benefits from the experience of Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz, known for guiding multiple teams to World Cup qualification. Key experienced players include Ali Al Busaidi, Harb Al Saadi, Jameel Al Yahmadi, Mohsin Al Ghassani, Salah Al Yahyaei, and Essam Al Subhi. The team also relies on young talents such as Ahed Al Mashaykhi, Abdulrahman Al Mushaifri, Ghanem Al Habshi, and Musab Al Shaqsi to add energy and creativity on the field.
Coach’s Pre-Match Statement
Coach Queiroz emphasized readiness and determination in a pre-match press conference, saying, “We will play against Qatar and then the UAE. We are fully prepared and have the motivation and confidence to achieve a positive result. The players are ready to give their best. We will play with high spirits and focus on one goal, no matter the challenges.” He also highlighted the importance of maintaining focus and minimizing mistakes while recognizing the strengths and weaknesses of the opponents.
Player Confidence and Commitment
Ali Al Busaidi expressed his confidence in the team, stating, “Our goal since the start of the qualifiers has been to qualify, and this is a crucial stage. Pressure is normal, and we are ready to handle it with full focus and confidence. This match is very important, and we are preparing in the best possible way.”
Qatar’s Perspective
Qatar’s Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui said his team is preparing with “high spirits and great enthusiasm” and is focused on improving collective strength and performance. He acknowledged Oman as a strong opponent with distinguished players and emphasized attention to detail and readiness for tomorrow’s match.
Final Preparations
Oman will conduct its final training session on the match field today at 5:30 PM. The session will include tactical drills, physical exercises, and final adjustments for the starting lineup to ensure optimal readiness.
Historical Record Between Teams
This will be the 36th meeting between Oman and Qatar. Oman has won 7 matches, Qatar has won 19, and 7 ended in a draw. Their last encounter in the 2024 Gulf Cup ended with Oman winning 2-1. Previous World Cup qualifiers between the teams in 1990 and 2002 saw Qatar winning 1-0 and 2-1, respectively.
The current stage is played as a single-match system with six teams divided into two groups. Group winners will secure direct qualification to the World Cup, while runners-up will compete in a two-match play-off. The play-off winner will advance to a global six-team tournament, where only two teams will qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals.
Oman is determined to capitalize on tomorrow’s match to strengthen its qualification hopes. With a mix of experienced and young players and strong coaching leadership, the national team aims to perform at its best against Qatar and the UAE.
