Physician Receives Sentence in Matthew Perry Ketamine Case

Physician Receives Sentence in Matthew Perry Ketamine Case

Post by : Meena Hassan

A doctor from the Los Angeles area has been sentenced to a term of 30 months in federal prison for the illegal supply of ketamine that contributed to the untimely death of actor Matthew Perry. Dr. Salvador Plasencia, 44, also incurred a fine of $5,600 after entering a guilty plea on multiple felony charges.

Matthew Perry, aged 54, was discovered unresponsive in his jacuzzi on October 28, 2023. The autopsy findings indicated that the “acute effects of ketamine” played a significant role in his death.

It was disclosed by authorities that Plasencia administered ketamine to Perry on several occasions in the weeks preceding his death, including at the actor’s home and in a vehicle. Perry had previously battled substance abuse and had received ketamine treatment for depression and anxiety at a licensed facility. As his treatment needs went unmet, he resorted to alternative providers.

Court documentation revealed that Plasencia acquired the substance from another medical professional and enabled its use in a manner that took advantage of Perry’s dependency. Text messages suggested efforts to monetize the actor’s vulnerability. Other individuals, such as a personal assistant and drug distributors, have also admitted guilt and await sentencing.

During the court proceedings, Plasencia voiced his remorse, taking responsibility and offering apologies to Perry’s family. The presiding judge condemned the actions that facilitated the actor’s addiction, while Perry’s mother delivered a poignant address highlighting the violation of the medical oath.
