Thailand's PM Anutin Advocates for Justice Reform

Post by : Shakul

During a pivotal national gathering at the IMPACT FORUM in Nonthaburi, Anutin Charnvirakul reiterated Thailand's dedication to reforming its justice system and upholding the rule of law. The event, themed “24 Years of Swift, Comprehensive, and Just Assistance to Innocent Victims,” saw the Prime Minister advocate for timely and equitable justice to foster public confidence and maintain national cohesion.

Anutin asserted, “Justice delayed is justice denied,” stressing that it is the government's duty to shield innocent lives and ensure equitable legal treatment for everyone. He pointed out that the principles of justice and law are essential for social order, democratic integrity, and sustainable national progress in Thailand.

The Prime Minister underscored the government's commitment to safeguarding the rights of victims, suspects, and defendants in the justice system. He emphasized that help and legal protection should be offered irrespective of nationality, social standing, or background. Anutin also remarked on the need for foreign residents in Thailand to receive fair treatment aligned with global human rights standards.

In reference to the policy statement made to Parliament on April 9, 2026, Anutin reiterated Thailand's vow to fortify legal equality and enhance public access to justice. He mentioned that ongoing legal reforms aim to alleviate unnecessary obstacles for citizens and increase the efficiency and transparency of governmental services through cutting-edge technology.

The Prime Minister addressed the hardship of innocent individuals entrenched in legal troubles or criminal investigations. He highlighted that wrongful allegations and procedural delays can adversely affect reputations, freedom, and overall well-being. Anutin urged the government to take proactive measures to shield innocent people from becoming scapegoats within the justice framework.

Officials disclosed that since the launch of the Compensation for Victims and Reimbursement of Expenses for Defendants in Criminal Cases Act in 2001, over 145,000 innocent individuals have benefited from the assistance program. More than 8.1 billion baht has been allocated to support victims and defendants impacted by legal matters. In 2023 alone, over 1,000 foreign nationals have received assistance totaling over 47 million baht.

Anutin instructed all government bodies to adhere strictly to three core principles: speed, service comprehensiveness, and fairness. He stressed that victims should receive immediate aid without delay or convoluted processes. The Prime Minister also called on civil servants and local governors to take an assertive approach in addressing legal challenges and alleviating the pain of affected citizens.

He pointed out that improving the judicial system plays a critical role in enhancing Thailand's global standing and economic prospects. Anutin noted that robust standards of law are scrutinized by international investors and organizations, particularly as Thailand aims for membership in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. He stressed that transparent legal systems foster confidence among businesses and the global market.

The event concluded with the Prime Minister symbolically setting a clock to noon, marking the ambition of achieving prompt and impartial justice. He also personally delivered financial aid to four victims as part of Thailand's compensation initiative aimed at those affected in criminal cases. Officials described the gathering as integral to the government's extensive initiatives to modernize the justice framework and guarantee fair treatment for all citizens in Thailand.
