Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu – November 19, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially launched the South India Natural Farming Summit in Coimbatore, underscoring the nation’s commitment to sustainable and organic farming. This three-day event, concluding on November 21, unites 5,000 farmers, agricultural specialists, and enthusiasts to highlight the natural farming methods advanced by renowned organic farmer Nammalvar.
Throughout the summit, PM Modi interacted with farmers engaged in natural farming practices across the region and honored ten outstanding farmers for their exceptional contributions to sustainable agriculture. In a significant development, he unveiled the 21st installment of the PM-KISAN scheme, allocating Rs 18,000 crore to benefit almost 9 crore farmers throughout India.
Coimbatore, referred to as the “Manchester of South India” due to its industrial significance, is fully prepared for the summit, with rigorous traffic management in place on Avinashi Road. The road will see closures from 12 noon to 4 pm, and truck entries to the city will be restricted from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Additionally, security at Coimbatore International Airport has been reinforced, limiting private vehicles and cabs between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. for smooth logistical operations during the Prime Minister’s visit.
Tamil Nadu plays a pivotal role in India's agricultural landscape, holding third place in overall agricultural output with a 9.18% share for 2023-24. The state excels in floriculture, ranks second in livestock production with a 13.96% share, and contributes significantly to the production of spices (1.95%), fruits (6.50%), vegetables (4.62%), and plantations (25.40%). This summit serves as a platform for experts to exchange knowledge and strategies aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and elevating food exports, projected at Rs 2,43,042 crore for 2024-25, according to government data.
The South India Natural Farming Summit is anticipated to motivate farmers towards adopting organic and sustainable approaches, thereby boosting productivity while safeguarding the environment. With a global focus on sustainable food production, this event highlights India’s role as a leader in advocating natural farming techniques while empowering farmers with modern insights, government aid, and innovative methodologies.
This summit not only pays homage to Nammalvar's legacy but also marks a new era in the agricultural progression of India, with an emphasis on sustainability, productivity, and the potential for export, rendering it a vital gathering for farmers, policymakers, and industry representatives alike.
