Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, participated in a quadrilateral meeting on Sudan. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. It brought together representatives from the United Arab Emirates, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the United States of America.

Focus on Sudanese Crisis Developments

The discussions focused on recent developments in Sudan and the urgent need for coordinated efforts to address the ongoing crisis. Prince Faisal emphasized the importance of unifying international and regional initiatives to overcome humanitarian challenges faced by the Sudanese population.

Addressing Humanitarian Challenges

The meeting highlighted the severe humanitarian situation in Sudan, including the need for food, medical aid, and protection for vulnerable populations. Prince Faisal and other participants stressed that immediate action and cooperation among key countries are essential to prevent further suffering and stabilize the situation on the ground.

Implementing Jeddah Declaration Commitments

A key topic of the meeting was implementing the commitments outlined in the Jeddah Declaration. These commitments focus on protecting civilians, maintaining Sudan’s security, and ensuring that all parties respect human rights and international law. The meeting reaffirmed that the protection of civilians must remain a top priority in all efforts.

Preserving Sudan’s Stability and Unity

The discussions also emphasized the importance of preserving Sudan’s stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Prince Faisal highlighted Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting Sudan’s unity and assisting international partners in fostering a peaceful and secure environment throughout the country.

Regional and International Coordination

Participants recognized the need for close coordination among regional and international stakeholders. By working together, the countries involved aim to create a comprehensive plan that addresses both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term political solutions to the Sudanese crisis.

Saudi Arabia’s Role in Sudan Relief

Prince Faisal reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s active role in providing humanitarian assistance to Sudan. The Kingdom has contributed to relief efforts, including food supplies, medical support, and infrastructure rebuilding, and continues to work with international organizations to ensure aid reaches those most in need.

Commitment to Long-Term Solutions

The meeting concluded with a shared understanding that solving the Sudanese crisis requires sustainable solutions. This includes political dialogue, economic support, and regional cooperation. Prince Faisal emphasized that Saudi Arabia will continue to participate actively in diplomatic initiatives to secure peace and stability in Sudan.

Importance of Multilateral Efforts

The quadrilateral meeting highlighted the significance of multilateral collaboration in addressing complex crises. By engaging with the UAE, Egypt, and the USA, Saudi Arabia aims to strengthen collective efforts and encourage other nations to contribute toward resolving the Sudanese humanitarian and political challenges.

As the Sudanese crisis evolves, continuous diplomatic engagement remains critical. Saudi Arabia, along with its partners, will monitor developments closely, provide humanitarian aid, and support measures that uphold Sudan’s sovereignty and protect its citizens, ensuring a path toward stability and unity.
