Putin's Swollen Hand in Viral Video Raises Health Concerns

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

A recently surfaced video featuring Russian President Vladimir Putin has ignited widespread concerns over his health status. The footage, rapidly circulated on social media platforms, depicts the 73-year-old leader with a notably swollen and veiny right hand, prompting discussions about potential medical issues among viewers.

The clip, said to have been shot last week, captures Putin interacting with Yekaterina Leshchinskaya, the 22-year-old head of the Russian Healthy Fatherland movement. In the footage, Putin appears to experience discomfort, often clenching his right hand into a tight fist — an act that quickly captured the attention of online audiences.

Anton Gerashchenko, a former adviser to Ukraine's interior ministry, posted the video on X (previously Twitter) with the remark: “What’s up with Putin’s hands in this video?” His tweet incited a surge of online speculations, leading users to suggest that the Russian leader could be dealing with circulatory or neurological issues, including Parkinson’s disease.

Rumors Surrounding Health Persist

This isn't the first time Vladimir Putin's health has triggered international speculation. Earlier this year, during a military visit, his hand appeared bruised and discolored, reigniting illness rumors. Kremlin representatives have often dismissed such narratives as politically charged and untrue.

On social media, viewers have drawn parallels between Putin's recent health observations and those of past global leaders facing similar scrutiny, like former U.S. President Donald Trump, whose bruised hand also led to health speculation later clarified as due to “tissue damage from frequent handshaking.”

Revisiting Controversial Statements

Amid renewed scrutiny regarding Putin's health, social media platforms have unearthed a previous viral exchange between him and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, where Putin commented on human organ transplants and longevity, stating: “Human organs can be continuously transplanted. The longer you live, the younger you become.” This remark has sparked fresh curiosity regarding the Russian leader's thoughts on aging and immortality.

Kremlin's Silence Endures

As of now, there has been no official response from the Kremlin regarding the recent health speculations. Nevertheless, officials have historically asserted that Putin is in “excellent health,” maintaining his routine meetings and public activities.

Nonetheless, with the video continuing to be shared across platforms, questions about Putin’s health are back in the spotlight, fueling both concern and conspiracy theories among the public.
