During the ninth meeting of the Global Coalition for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, Qatar actively participated in Brussels, Belgium. This significant event saw the presence of high-ranking international officials, including the EU's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, alongside Belgium's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Maxime Prevost.
Representing Qatar, Acting Charge d’Affaires to the EU, Sarah bint Ahmed Al Mohannadi, reiterated the nation’s persistent advocacy for regional peace initiatives.
In her remarks, Al Mohannadi expressed gratitude towards the EU for organizing the gathering and acknowledged Belgium's role as host. She commended ongoing global efforts to maintain focus on the Palestinian issue.
She underscored the necessity for regular coalition meetings to enhance international cooperation and to progress toward actionable steps for realizing the two-state solution. This envisioned approach entails the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and advocates for the right of return for Palestinian refugees as per UN Resolution 194.
Al Mohannadi also pointed out Qatar's proactive involvement in mediating discussions concerning the Gaza Strip, alongside its engagement in international initiatives, including a proposed 20-point action plan. She mentioned Qatar's contribution to the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement, highlighting its commitment to peace.
With a pledge of $1 billion to foster comprehensive and sustainable peace, Qatar welcomed the formation of the Peace Council and its committees.
She voiced support for UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and a US-backed peace blueprint, emphasizing that every UN member state holds a responsibility in its enforcement. Al Mohannadi also raised concerns over Israel's actions, citing ceasefire breaches, ongoing presence in Gaza, and humanitarian aid limitations.
Reflecting on the humanitarian crisis, she called for the Rafah crossing to be fully reopened for safe civilian movements and the continual delivery of aid, cautioning against the politicization of border crossings, which jeopardizes the health of critically ill patients in Gaza.
Al Mohannadi reiterated Qatar’s unwavering backing of UNRWA, warning that hindering its operations jeopardizes the global humanitarian framework and necessitating international support for its uninterrupted functioning.
She condemned Israeli actions in the West Bank, notably settlement expansion and land annexation, categorizing them as violations of international law that hamper peace efforts.
Raising alarms about altering realities in the region during global crises, particularly in sensitive hotspots like the West Bank and Al-Aqsa Mosque, she cautioned that such maneuvers could escalate tensions and instability.
Ultimately, she stressed that enduring peace hinges on resolving the root causes of conflict, ending occupation, and allowing the Palestinian people their right to self-determination. Qatar remains committed to collaborating with global partners for humanitarian assistance, reconstruction, and durable peace.
