Qatar Airways has successfully completed the installation of Starlink satellite internet on 54 Boeing 777 aircraft. This marks a major milestone for the airline, making it the world’s largest operator of widebody aircraft with Starlink Wi-Fi technology onboard.

The airline, recently awarded the title of World’s Best Airline by Skytrax 2025, becomes the first and only airline in the Middle East and North Africa to offer this advanced internet service to passengers.

Installation Finished Almost a Year Ahead of Schedule

The Starlink rollout was originally planned as a two-year programme. However, Qatar Airways completed it in just nine months, almost a year ahead of schedule. The retrofit process was streamlined, cutting installation time from three days to just 9.5 hours per aircraft.

This allowed the airline to complete the project quickly and efficiently, without affecting flight operations.

Free High-Speed Internet for All Flyers

Passengers travelling on Qatar Airways’ Boeing 777s can now access high-speed internet for free. The service offers speeds of up to 500 Mbps per aircraft and is available to both Economy and Premium class passengers.

Whether you’re streaming movies, gaming, joining a video call, or working remotely, you can now stay connected with internet quality that matches what you’d expect at home.

CEO Highlights Commitment to Innovation

Group Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Badr Mohammed Al Meer, said the achievement demonstrates the airline’s dedication to improving the passenger experience through technology.

“This new milestone demonstrates our strategic investment in redefining our passengers’ expectations. We promised the fastest, most seamless in-flight connectivity in the industry, and with Starlink we have delivered it faster and at an unmatched scale,” he said.

He added that now the Boeing 777 rollout is complete, Qatar Airways will shift focus to equipping its Airbus A350 fleet with the same Starlink technology.

Airbus A350 is the Next Step

With the Boeing 777 aircraft now fully upgraded, Qatar Airways has begun the next phase of Starlink installation on its Airbus A350 fleet. The airline aims to complete this phase within the next year, allowing even more routes and passengers to enjoy seamless in-flight internet.

This upgrade aligns with the airline’s strategy to remain at the forefront of aviation technology and digital innovation.

Over 15,000 Flights Already Connected

Since the debut of the world’s first Starlink-equipped Boeing 777 in October 2024, Qatar Airways has operated more than 15,000 flights offering Starlink Wi-Fi. The consistent performance and positive passenger feedback have confirmed the value of this high-speed connectivity.

It’s a clear sign that passengers are increasingly expecting uninterrupted digital access—even at 35,000 feet.

Understanding Starlink Technology

Starlink is a satellite-based internet service developed by SpaceX. It provides high-speed, low-latency broadband by connecting to a network of satellites in low Earth orbit.

For commercial aviation, this means that passengers can enjoy an internet experience similar to what they get on the ground—something that was difficult to achieve with older satellite systems.

Benefits of Starlink on Qatar Airways Flights

  • Free access to internet from take-off to landing

  • Speeds of up to 500 Mbps per aircraft

  • No login or extra charges for passengers

  • Stable connection for video calls, streaming, browsing, and gaming

  • Available in both Economy and Premium cabins

This offering transforms the travel experience for long-haul and ultra-long-haul flights, where staying connected makes a significant difference for both leisure and business travelers.

Why This Move Matters

In a time when digital access is essential, Qatar Airways is setting a new standard in the airline industry. Many airlines still charge extra for basic internet, while Qatar Airways is providing high-speed access for free.

This positions the airline as a leader in not only luxury and service but also in adopting next-generation technology for passenger convenience.

Impact on the Airline Industry

The rapid completion of the Starlink rollout shows what’s possible when innovation meets efficient execution. While other airlines are still in testing phases or slow rollouts, Qatar Airways has delivered fast, reliable Wi-Fi on more than 50 aircraft in under a year.

This move challenges the rest of the industry to catch up and rethink how they offer connectivity to modern travelers.

Passengers Can Now Stay Productive and Entertained

Whether it’s replying to urgent work emails, catching up on news, attending video meetings, or simply enjoying your favorite shows on a streaming platform, Qatar Airways ensures its passengers can stay connected during the flight.

This level of connectivity not only improves comfort but also supports business travelers who need to work on the go.

Qatar Airways’ successful Starlink rollout is a game-changer for international air travel. The airline delivered on its promise to provide the world’s fastest and most reliable in-flight internet, and it did so in record time.

Now, with the focus shifting to the Airbus A350 fleet, even more travelers will benefit from free, high-speed Wi-Fi on board. In a world where digital access is essential, Qatar Airways is leading the way and showing how technology can enhance the flying experience for everyone.
