Akasa Air remains optimistic about its growth trajectory, asserting that rising fuel prices and global geopolitical issues will not derail its expansion strategies. The airline is concentrating on enhancing its capacity to solidify its role in India's burgeoning aviation sector.
Capacity Growth Ambitions
As per Chief Financial Officer Ankur Goel, Akasa Air aims for a robust 30 percent growth in capacity for this fiscal year. Over the next four to five years, the airline targets consistent annual growth of between 30 and 40 percent as it broadens its domestic and international market reach.
Ongoing Fleet Development
During FY26, Akasa Air incorporated 10 new Boeing 737 MAX jets, increasing its fleet to 39 aircraft. This expansion supports the airline's objective of enhancing network capacity while adhering to its strategy of maintaining a modern fleet devoid of older leased aircraft.
Robust Financial Outcomes
Akasa Air identified FY26 as a pivotal year, marking a 37 percent increase in operating revenue compared to the prior year. The airline has also made strides in improving its financial health by reducing losses and sustaining EBITDA positivity for six months during the fiscal year.
Challenges from Fuel Prices
The airline has recognized that accelerated aviation fuel costs tied to tensions in West Asia are affecting operational expenses. However, management believes these challenges are temporary and remains confident in its strategy to navigate them through prudent planning and fiscal responsibility.
Plans for International Growth
Currently, approximately 25% of Akasa Air's capacity is allocated to international flights. The airline operates in 27 domestic locations and seven international routes, with plans to extend its global network in the years ahead.
Unwavering Long-Term Vision
With a recent capital boost ensuring ample liquidity, Akasa Air is positioned to support its future growth and navigate market uncertainties. The airline remains dedicated to its ambitious goal of establishing a fleet of 226 aircraft by 2032, alongside ongoing pilot recruitment and capacity-enhancing efforts.
