Jordan’s historic first appearance at the FIFA World Cup has created one of the tournament’s most remarkable fan scenes, with thousands of supporters gathering inside Amman’s ancient Roman Theater to watch the national team on giant screens.
The theater, built nearly 2,000 years ago in the second century, has been transformed into a public fan zone during Jordan’s World Cup campaign. Fans have filled the stone steps of the landmark venue to support the national team, Al-Nashama, in what is the country’s first-ever participation in football’s biggest tournament.
The public screenings were organized with support from Jordan’s Ministry of Youth, the Greater Amman Municipality and tourism authorities. The initiative has allowed supporters from across the capital to watch the matches together in one of Jordan’s most famous historical sites.
Jordan qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the first time in its history, ending decades of attempts to reach the tournament. The achievement has sparked celebrations across the country, and the Roman Theater has become a central gathering place for fans.
Large crowds have attended the screenings despite some matches being scheduled early in the morning because of time differences. For certain games, gates opened before sunrise to allow supporters to enter the venue ahead of kick-off.
