The 2025-2026 season of the Qatar Basketball League will start on Saturday with two exciting matches. Nine clubs are participating in this season.
On Saturday, Al Rayyan will face Qatar SC, while Al Sadd will play against Al Wakrah. Both matches will take place at the Al Gharafa Sports Club Hall.
The first round of the league will finish next Monday with two more matches. Al Shamal will play Al Khor, and Al Ahli will compete against Al Gharafa, also at the Al Gharafa Sports Club Hall. The defending champions, Al Arabi, will rest during this opening round.
The league will continue at a fast pace until the sixth round on November 5. After that, the league will pause temporarily so the Qatari national team can take part in the first round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA World Cup. Qatar will play against Lebanon at home on November 27 and again in Beirut on November 30. This qualifying round has 80 teams competing for 31 spots in the finals. Qatar will take part as the host nation.
The first half of the league season will end on December 13. The second half will start on December 20 and continue until January 17, 2026. This schedule gives teams a chance to prepare and compete strongly before the final stages of the season.
A new play-off system will be introduced this season. Teams ranked third to sixth will compete for semi-final spots. The third-place team will play the fourth-place team, and the winner will face the second-place team in the semi-final. Meanwhile, the fifth-place team will play the sixth-place team, and the loser will be eliminated. The winner of this match will then play the loser of the third vs fourth match to reach the semi-final.
The semi-finals and play-off matches will be played in a best-of-three format. The final match of the Qatar Basketball League 2025-2026 season is scheduled to take place between February 2 and 7, 2026. Fans can expect an exciting season full of competitive basketball and thrilling matches.
