Al Rayyan started their Qatar Basketball League campaign with a strong performance, defeating Qatar SC 97-86 in their opening-round matchup. Rolands Freimanis led Al Rayyan with 24 points and played a key role in securing the win. Despite the loss, Qatar SC’s Janic was named the game’s Most Valuable Player after scoring 26 points, showcasing his skill and determination.

Following the victory, Al Rayyan earned two points in the league standings, while Qatar SC collected one point for their effort. The match highlighted Al Rayyan’s teamwork and ability to maintain control in critical moments, setting a positive tone for the rest of their season. Both teams demonstrated competitive spirit and potential for strong performances in upcoming matches.

In another opening-round game, Al Sadd edged out Al Wakrah 91-83 in a closely contested match. Both teams exchanged leads throughout the game, but Al Sadd pulled ahead in the final minutes to secure victory. Stephen Green of Al Sadd earned the MVP award by scoring 28 points and contributing effectively on both offense and defense. Kamara led Al Wakrah with 23 points, keeping the match competitive until the end.

Al Sadd’s win earned them two points in the Qatar Basketball League standings, while Al Wakrah collected one point. The match demonstrated the high level of competition and the depth of talent across teams in the league. Fans can expect further exciting games as teams continue to fight for top positions.

The first round of the league continues on Wednesday with Al Shamal facing Al Khor in the opening game, followed by Al Ahli against Al Gharafa. These matches will further shape the early league standings and offer more opportunities for standout performances from key players.

Defending champions Al Arabi are on a bye this round due to their participation in the West Asia Super League (WASL). They are set to begin their group-stage campaign against Kuwait SC on Tuesday evening in Kuwait, representing the Gulf region in international competition. Al Arabi’s absence adds an interesting dynamic to the league as other teams seek to capitalize on early opportunities.

The Qatar Basketball League continues to provide thrilling matches and showcase the skills of top players in the region. Both Al Rayyan and Al Sadd have made strong starts, setting expectations for a competitive season ahead.
