At the 35th session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) held in Vienna, Qatar reiterated its commitment to bolster international collaboration against organized crime, cybercrime, and corruption.
Leading the Qatari delegation, HE Legal Advisor to the Minister of Interior, Major General Dr. Abdullah Yousef Al Mal, pointed out the increasing dangers posed by transnational organized crime in the context of escalating global conflicts and polarization.
In his address, Dr. Al Mal emphasized that cooperation on an international level is essential for ensuring global peace and security while tackling common security dilemmas. He called for enhanced multilateral initiatives to address cross-border crime, cyber threats, and corruption.
Dr. Al Mal detailed Qatar’s notable contributions, including hosting the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (COSP11) scheduled for December 2025.
He highlighted the adoption of the “Doha Declaration” at this conference, a pivotal agreement intended to enhance international cooperation and strengthen capacity-building endeavors in the fight against corruption.
Regarding cybersecurity, Dr. Al Mal underscored Qatar's proactive role in advocating for the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, urging nations to expedite its ratification to improve global action against cyber threats.
In conclusion, Dr. Al Mal advocated for increased investments in crime prevention and justice systems, underlining the necessity of adopting holistic strategies targeting the socio-economic roots of crime, with a focus on empowering youth and enhancing their skills.
Qatar's engagement in the UN session showcases its unwavering commitment to supporting global initiatives aimed at fostering security, preventing crime, and promoting justice through cooperation and sustainable development.
