Qatar was present at the 103rd session of the Permanent Committee for Arab Media on Tuesday, hosted at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo. This gathering brought together media leaders from across the Arab region to delve into significant media-related matters.
Abdulrahman bin Nasser Al Obaidan presided over the session, with Qatar represented by Abdullah Ghanem Al Buainain Al Muhannadi, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Agreements at the Qatar Media Corporation. High-profile officials underscored Qatar’s proactive involvement in formulating media strategies in the Arab world.
During the meeting, attendees examined key issues, including the revised Arab Media Code of Honour, which establishes ethical standards for media operations. The agenda also covered strategies against terrorism, enhancing media literacy, and fostering public knowledge of reliable information.
An environmental media initiative was introduced, aimed at leveraging media to boost ecological awareness within Arab nations. Furthermore, an executive program was proposed to fortify the media roadmap aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030, ensuring a contributory role for media in global development efforts.
The discussions and recommendations generated during the meeting will be forwarded to the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, which convened on the same day. Approved proposals will proceed to the Council’s 55th session scheduled for Wednesday at the Arab League headquarters. This outlines a coordinated approach for implementing media strategies among member states.
The Permanent Committee for Arab Media includes heads of media agencies from Arab countries, tasked with developing media strategies, formulating plans, and reviewing expert assessments. This entity operates under Article 14 of the Council’s foundational statute to harmonize Arab media policies and foster regional collaboration.
Qatar’s involvement in the session signifies its dedication to advocating for accountable and ethical media practices throughout the Arab world. The discussions accentuate the necessity of boosting media literacy, tackling terrorism-related information issues, and promoting sustainable development via media initiatives.
The 103rd session of the Permanent Committee underlined the synergy among Arab nations in building a robust and accountable media landscape. Qatar’s active participation reiterates its commitment to advancing media standards, ethical journalism, and knowledge exchange in the region, aligning with broader global benchmarks.
