The 25th meeting of the Coordinating Committee of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) began on Monday in Doha, Qatar. The event, running from October 20 to 22, is hosted by the State of Qatar under the co-chairmanship of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the European Union. This important international gathering brings together member countries to discuss strategies to combat terrorism and enhance global security cooperation.
Doha is also hosting a series of meetings and events alongside the main Coordinating Committee sessions, providing a platform for discussion and collaboration among participating countries. The State of Qatar’s delegation is led by His Excellency Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Faisal bin Abdullah Al Hanzab. His presence underscores Qatar’s active role in international counterterrorism efforts and its commitment to fostering cooperation among GCTF members.
In his address during the meeting, Ambassador Al Hanzab highlighted the State of Qatar’s ongoing counterterrorism initiatives. He emphasized the importance of tackling terrorism comprehensively, addressing both the phenomenon itself and its sources of funding. His speech reflected Qatar’s commitment to international security and its role as a reliable partner in global efforts to counter violent extremism.
Ambassador Al Hanzab also stressed Qatar’s dedication to strengthening the effectiveness of the GCTF Coordinating Committee. He highlighted the need for continuous collaboration and knowledge sharing to ensure the long-term sustainability and impact of the forum. The discussions focused on enhancing strategies to prevent terrorism, protect communities, and support the collective objectives of the member countries.
At the conclusion of his speech, Ambassador Al Hanzab announced that the State of Qatar will provide financial support to the GCTF Administrative Unit. This funding aims to support the ongoing work of the forum and enhance its operational capacity, ensuring that the GCTF continues to serve as a key platform for international counterterrorism cooperation.
The meeting in Doha reflects the global community’s continued commitment to fighting terrorism through collaboration, strategic planning, and shared expertise. Participating nations are expected to discuss actionable measures, share best practices, and explore new initiatives that can strengthen counterterrorism frameworks worldwide. Qatar’s role as host and contributor further reinforces its dedication to global peace and security.
