Qatar Attends 49th Arab Police and Security Leaders Meeting

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The State of Qatar took part in the 49th Conference of Arab Police and Security Leaders, which was hosted at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. This important regional meeting brought together senior security officials from across the Arab world to discuss new challenges, review progress and strengthen cooperation in the field of policing and internal security.

Qatar’s delegation was led by Major General Mohammed Jassim Al Sulaiti, Director-General of Public Security. His participation highlighted Qatar’s commitment to supporting regional security efforts, sharing expertise and staying updated on new security developments in the Arab region. The conference is considered one of the most significant annual gatherings for Arab interior ministries and law enforcement agencies, as it provides a platform for cooperation and the exchange of successful policing strategies.

During the conference, one of the main topics discussed was the growing threat of synthetic drugs. These substances have become a major issue for many countries, as they can be produced easily and spread quickly. Participants examined the latest trends in manufacturing and trafficking, and explored ways to improve early detection and prevention. They also reviewed measures designed to raise awareness, track new chemical compounds and strengthen cooperation among Arab states to stop the spread of these dangerous substances.

Another important part of the conference focused on reviewing the recommendations made during the previous year’s meeting. Member states shared updates on the steps they had taken to implement those recommendations, including improvements in information sharing, training programs for police officers and new technologies introduced to strengthen security operations. The follow-up discussions allowed countries to evaluate their progress and identify areas where more support or coordination may be needed.

The conference also gave space for participating countries to present their distinguished security experiences. These sessions allowed leaders to showcase successful initiatives in areas such as crime prevention, digital security, traffic safety and community policing. By sharing these examples, the conference helped strengthen the collective knowledge of Arab police forces and encouraged the adoption of modern and effective security practices across the region.

In addition, the attendees reviewed the 2025 report of the Arab Police Sports Federation. This report included updates on sports activities, competitions and upcoming plans aimed at promoting physical fitness among police personnel in Arab countries. Sports programs play an important role in improving teamwork, discipline and overall health within security forces, making them an essential part of police development strategies.

The conference also discussed early preparations for the agenda of the 50th Conference of Arab Police and Security Leaders, which is scheduled to be held in 2026. This included preliminary topics to be addressed, possible new challenges that may emerge in the coming years and ways to ensure stronger collaboration among Arab interior ministries. By planning ahead, the conference aims to create a more organized and effective platform for future cooperation and stronger regional security.

The participation of Qatar in the 49th conference reflects its ongoing dedication to enhancing regional security, supporting joint Arab efforts and staying at the forefront of international policing standards. Through active engagement in such meetings, Qatar continues to contribute to strengthening security cooperation, improving readiness and ensuring safety for communities across the Arab world.
