The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) announced that the Qatar Oaks race will take place on Sunday at Al Rayyan Racecourse. The decision follows rainfall across Qatar overnight, with the club prioritising the safety of all horses, jockeys, and participants. QREC confirmed that the Qatar International Derby will run as scheduled on Saturday, starting at 3:00 p.m., while the Qatar Oaks will begin at the same time on Sunday.
QREC emphasised its commitment to following the highest safety standards in line with international horse racing regulations. The club had earlier stated that the Qatar International Derby will be held on the turf track at Al Rayyan, featuring 10 races with 16 participating horses and a total prize fund of USD 1.3 million. The tenth and main race of the event carries a prize of USD 500,000.
The main tenth race, known as the Qatar Derby for Purebred Thoroughbreds, is a Group 1 international contest for three-year-old horses over a distance of 2,000 metres. The winner of this race will earn a spot in the Al Shafla race, which will be part of the HH The Amir's Sword Festival in February.
QREC reiterated that both races aim to provide fair competition while maintaining the highest standards of safety for horses and riders, ensuring an exciting and well-managed racing experience for all attendees.
