Qatar Rail Honored with RoSPA Gold Award for 2025

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) has earned the 2025 RoSPA Gold Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) in the United Kingdom. This global honor recognizes Qatar Rail’s exceptional dedication to health and safety standards in the workplace. The award reflects the company’s continuous focus on promoting a safe, sustainable, and efficient transportation system that prioritizes the well-being of employees, passengers, and partners.

Recognition for Collaborative Efforts

The achievement was made possible through the strong cooperation between Qatar Rail and its service provider, RKH Qitarat, whose Occupational Health and Safety Teams played a key role in maintaining high safety standards. The award acknowledges the company’s robust health and safety management systems across all operations, demonstrating a proactive approach to risk management and accident prevention.

Comprehensive Evaluation by RoSPA

The RoSPA Adjudication Panel conducted a detailed evaluation of Qatar Rail’s safety practices across several critical categories. These included leadership commitment, workforce participation, planning and risk assessment, communication, monitoring, investigation, and performance review. The results confirmed Qatar Rail’s excellence in creating a culture of safety, care, and accountability within its organization.

Leadership Emphasizes Commitment to Safety

Speaking about the achievement, Eng. Abdulrahman Al Malik, Senior QSHESE Director at Qatar Rail, expressed pride in the company’s success. He stated, “This recognition reflects Qatar Rail’s leadership and its collaboration with RKH Qitarat to enhance the effective use of health and safety systems. It highlights our continuous commitment to adopting the best international practices and safeguarding the well-being of our employees and passengers.” He further emphasized that the award reinforces the company’s culture of care, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Global Recognition of Excellence

Winning the RoSPA Gold Award places Qatar Rail among an elite group of organizations worldwide recognized for their outstanding contributions to workplace safety and accident prevention. The award is respected across industries such as transport, infrastructure, energy, and healthcare, making it a global hallmark of excellence. It serves as a validation of Qatar Rail’s ongoing efforts to uphold the highest international safety standards.

History of Health and Safety Achievements

This is not the first time Qatar Rail has been recognized by RoSPA. In 2017, the company won three international awards for the Lusail Tram and the Doha Metro Gold and Green Lines. The Lusail Tram earned the Gold Award for Health and Safety for the second consecutive year, while the Doha Metro Gold and Green Lines won the Silver Award, and the main stations were honored with the Guardian Angel Award. These awards reflect the company’s consistent progress in building a strong safety record.

Continued Success in Safety Excellence

In 2020, Qatar Rail’s Lusail Tram project was honored with the RoSPA Gold Medal for maintaining Gold-level performance for five consecutive years (2016–2020). This continuous recognition showcases the company’s enduring commitment to excellence in safety and its ability to maintain high standards across large-scale infrastructure projects.

A Prestigious Global Competition

Every year, the RoSPA Awards receive around 2,000 entries from over 50 countries, representing organizations that employ more than seven million people worldwide. The competition honors companies that lead the way in accident prevention, occupational safety, and employee well-being. Qatar Rail’s success in this competitive environment demonstrates its strong position as a regional and global leader in safety innovation.

Driving a Culture of Safety and Innovation

Qatar Rail’s commitment to safety goes beyond meeting regulations; it aims to embed a culture of safety in every aspect of its operations. Through advanced monitoring systems, regular safety training, and collaboration with global experts, the company ensures that safety remains central to its mission. This focus has helped position Qatar Rail as a trusted name in sustainable urban transport in the Gulf region and beyond.

By winning the 2025 RoSPA Gold Award, Qatar Rail has once again proven its leadership in workplace safety and public transport innovation. The award is not only a recognition of its past achievements but also a reminder of its continuing mission — to provide safe, reliable, and sustainable mobility solutions for the people of Qatar. As the company expands its operations and services, this accolade will inspire future initiatives aimed at making safety an integral part of its growth journey.
