Massive Growth in Qatar's Sewage Network, Ashghal Reports

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The Public Works Authority, known as Ashghal, has revealed significant advancements in Qatar's sewage infrastructure projected from 2013 until 2025, indicating notable improvements in efficiency and network capacity.

As per Ashghal's report, total sewage network assets surged by 207%, increasing from 2,836 kilometers in 2013 to an impressive 9,707 kilometers by 2025. This monumental growth reflects the commitment to facilitate rapid urban development while enhancing the reliability of public services.

The revitalized sewage system encompasses 3,326 kilometers of sewage lines, 2,084 kilometers dedicated to treated sewage effluent (TSE), along with 494 kilometers of rising main pipelines and 911 kilometers of residential connections.

Moreover, it is equipped with 79,348 drainage access points and 165,924 surface drainage gullies, which collectively enhance the drainage and wastewater management capabilities throughout the nation.

Ashghal also highlighted the advancement of ancillary facilities. Currently, the sewage infrastructure boasts eight wastewater treatment plants, 120 foul sewer pumping stations, 13 TSE pumping stations, and 71 groundwater and surface water pumping stations.

This expansive development illustrates Qatar’s continued commitment to investing in state-of-the-art infrastructure aimed at fostering sustainable growth and enhancing public utility services.
