The Qatari men’s beach volleyball team secured a strong victory over Saudi Arabia in the second match of the preliminary round at the 4th West Asian Beach Volleyball Championship. The event, held in Muscat, Oman, runs until October 23 and features both men’s and women’s teams from the region. Mahmoud Essam and Saif Abdulmajeed led Qatar to a 2-0 win over Seraj Al Omari and Ahmed Mahfouz from Saudi Arabia, with set scores of 21-13 and 21-9.
In the women’s category, the Qatari duo of Haya Abu Issa and Laila Mohammed faced tough competition from Lebanon. Lara Al Nahi and Mirna Sheikho defeated the Qatari team in two sets to none, with scores of 21-14 and 21-11. Despite the loss, the Qatari women’s team gained valuable experience and insights for future international competitions.
The Qatari teams’ participation in Muscat is part of a broader strategy by the Qatar Volleyball Federation to prepare for the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship in Australia from November 14 to 23. The championship will feature 48 of the world’s top teams, offering an important opportunity for Qatar to showcase its skills on a global stage.
Qatar’s beach volleyball teams have a strong record in international competitions. The men’s team won the bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and achieved a fourth-place finish at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Additionally, the team has seen success in international tournaments such as the Newport Beach Tour in the United States, part of the Elite 16 World Tour. These accomplishments demonstrate Qatar’s consistent performance and growing reputation in the sport.
Following the men’s win against Saudi Arabia, the Qatari team aims to maintain its momentum and continue performing at a high level in upcoming matches of the West Asian Championship. Both men’s and women’s teams are working on refining their skills and strategies to compete successfully at future international tournaments, including the World Championship in Australia.
The Qatar Volleyball Federation continues to support the teams through training, international exposure, and participation in competitive events. The focus is on developing talent, improving team coordination, and ensuring that both men’s and women’s teams remain competitive at the highest levels. Their efforts highlight Qatar’s long-term commitment to excellence in beach volleyball and sports diplomacy in the region.
