Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar has revealed its scholarship initiative for the 2026–2027 academic year, introducing new study pathways and enhanced financial support aimed at nurturing skills in pivotal sectors.
This plan was unveiled at a press conference featuring HE Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the ministry, alongside senior officials. The initiative highlights four core objectives: promoting economic development, ensuring equitable opportunities, fostering diversity and inclusion, and nurturing homegrown talent. It aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 as well as the Third National Development Strategy.
Dr Hareb Aljabri, Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs, noted that this enhanced program represents a crucial advancement in cultivating skilled experts. A standout feature is a dedicated track for students with disabilities, facilitating their access to study abroad with appropriate support mechanisms.
The initiative also includes a bridging program for arts students aspiring to transition into scientific disciplines. Moreover, new scholarships have been launched in essential fields like nuclear engineering and clinical psychology to address urgent healthcare and environmental needs.
The scholarship framework offers opportunities at prestigious global institutions, as well as those located in Education City. Financial assistance will differ based on study areas, with increased stipends for medical and engineering disciplines. Internal and governmental scholarship provisions will be recalibrated based on academic standing and specialization.
For postgraduate scholarships, stringent eligibility criteria will apply to government employees, who must also secure their employer's approval to align with workforce planning.
Applications for external scholarships, Education City universities, and private colleges will be accepted from July 1 until August 15, while internal applications for public universities will be open from November 15 to December 30.
The Ministry of Labor emphasized that this initiative enhances alignment between educational institutions and job markets, particularly within the private sector. Meanwhile, the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau confirmed that priority will be granted to fields such as artificial intelligence, data science, and nuclear engineering, providing clear career pathways for graduates.
The revised scholarship initiative aims to better equip students for future careers, reinforcing Qatar's long-term developmental objectives.
