The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) in Qatar plays a very important role in helping the government become more digital and encouraging the use of cloud computing technologies. These efforts are part of the country’s plan called Digital Agenda 2030, which aims to build strong digital systems, support new ideas, and promote sustainable growth.
The ministry shared its work during the Google Cloud Summit Doha 2025, an event held on Thursday.
This summit also celebrated two years since Google Cloud started working in Qatar. During the event, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mohammed bin Ali bin Mohammed Al Mannai, honored several government organizations. These organizations have worked closely with Google Cloud to improve their use of cloud technology and speed up their digital transformation. This recognition shows how these organizations have helped improve government work and digital services, fitting well with the ministry’s goal to create a smart, connected government that can keep up with the world’s digital changes.
The event also showed how important partnerships between the government and private companies are. These partnerships help speed up digital change and create an environment where new ideas can grow.
In one of the talks, Eman Al Kuwari, the Director of Digital Innovation at MCIT, spoke about the ongoing digital transformation in Qatar. She talked about important projects led by the ministry, such as the AI Sandbox, XR Sandbox, smart city technologies, and digital services for the public. She also stressed how important it is to work with partners and invest in young people to adopt new technologies faster.
At the ministry’s booth during the summit, they showed some big national projects that help strengthen Qatar’s digital systems. One of these projects is called "Fanar," an AI project focusing on the Arabic language and culture. This project fits well with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Digital Agenda 2030 goals.
The ministry also demonstrated the XR Sandbox, which is a virtual space for creating and testing extended reality applications. They showed the AI Sandbox too, which helps innovators and entrepreneurs build AI solutions.
Another important part of the ministry’s work is a professional development program. This program trains local talent using the best global standards to prepare them for future digital challenges.
Sami Al Shammari, the Assistant Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Operations at MCIT, said the ministry’s involvement in the summit shows its strong commitment to digital transformation as a key part of government work.
Al Shammari explained that the partnership with Google Cloud is a great example of how cloud technology can be adopted quickly by government bodies. Today, 56 government entities in Qatar use Google Cloud’s services, which are safe, flexible, and help keep operations running smoothly.
He also talked about a new Overseas Internship Program in Dublin, started with Google Cloud. This program helps develop national experts who can lead and apply advanced technologies in Qatar, supporting the goals of Digital Agenda 2030.
The summit was a chance for the ministry to show its important partnership with Google Cloud, which now includes 56 government organizations. This teamwork is a key part of Qatar’s digital transformation journey, providing a safe and reliable cloud system that improves government efficiency, ensures work continues without interruption, and prepares agencies for future digital needs.
This partnership also helps government bodies use the latest cloud services based on international best practices. This means better services for the people living and working in Qatar.
The ministry is also working on expanding cloud technology in many government sectors. It continues to build strong relationships with top global tech companies and uses flexible work models that can change with new digital developments. This makes the government more efficient by connecting smart solutions, making data easier to access, and using resources in the best way.
All these efforts support the ministry’s commitment to the Digital Agenda 2030, which is Qatar’s national plan for digital growth. The goal is to create a strong, knowledge-based digital economy that lasts for the future.
