The State of Qatar continues its mission to provide crucial humanitarian assistance internationally, navigating significant regional hurdles such as transportation issues and disrupted air traffic.
Organizations like Qatar Charity and the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) executed their planned relief operations for Ramadan successfully. This achievement was thanks to meticulous coordination, foresight, and the robust support from their regional offices, which ensured aid consistently reached those in dire need.
Eng. Ibrahim bin Hashim Al Sada, Secretary-General of QRCS, noted that the organization's extensive experience and strategic partnerships have facilitated effective operations even under challenging circumstances. He emphasized that pre-Ramadan planning allowed most of the relief initiatives to proceed seamlessly across various nations.
Despite the difficulties, QRCS maintained significant programs, such as distributing iftar meals in Lebanon and Eid clothing for Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Jordan. However, certain operations, particularly medical aid shipments to Sudan, faced delays where deliveries were hindered due to ongoing regional conditions.
Al Sada also pointed out that aid delivery to Gaza has been hampered by border closures and restrictions, complicating efforts to fulfill essential needs.
Currently, QRCS teams are active in 12 countries, adapting their strategies according to on-ground realities, with ongoing projects in Yemen, Palestine, Syria, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Niger, while maintaining a stable operational framework.
In Lebanon, escalating humanitarian challenges have necessitated ongoing adjustments to aid strategies to more effectively address urgent needs.
Al Sada pointed out the efficacy of Qatar's humanitarian initiatives, highlighting the cooperation between various organizations, including Qatar Charity. He described this collaborative strategy as a unified effort to bring aid and hope to individuals in need worldwide.
Yousef bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, CEO of Qatar Charity, stated that their Ramadan campaign “Good Starts With You” reached approximately 3.85 million individuals across 43 countries.
The campaign encompassed iftar meals, zakat al-fitr, Eid clothing distribution, and development projects in areas such as housing, water supply, mosque building, and economic support. The focus extended to support refugees and displaced individuals, including populations from Rohingya, Somalia, Afghanistan, and Yemen.
Additionally, medical initiatives, including heart surgeries for children and eye treatment programs, were carried out throughout Ramadan.
Al Kuwari attributed the success of these endeavors to proactive preparation, a solid field presence, and local collaboration. He also highlighted the importance of using local markets to bolster host economies.
In Qatar, adaptations were made to aid delivery, with iftar meals provided directly to workers rather than hosting large events. A smart electronic voucher system was introduced to assist low-income families discreetly.
Qatar Charity has also implemented a faster operational framework, enabling immediate commencement of projects post-funding. This system streamlines site selection, approvals, and beneficiary identification.
Nevertheless, Al Kuwari expressed concerns about escalating costs due to ongoing regional disputes affecting supply chains. To counteract this, the organization is forming emergency response plans, enhancing logistical operations, and strengthening collaborative efforts for forthcoming needs.
He further emphasized the urgent humanitarian needs in Lebanon, where escalating tensions since March 2026 have caused widespread displacement. In light of this, Qatar Charity has initiated a $2.35 million emergency response plan covering food assistance, shelter, water and sanitation services, medical supplies, and solar energy solutions for critical infrastructures.
Al Kuwari concluded by assuring that Qatar Charity is vigilant in monitoring global affairs and is prepared to broaden its initiatives to guarantee dignified and effective support for those in need.
