Over 13 Million Visit the Two Holy Mosques in Rabi' Al-Akhir

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque announced that more than 13 million worshippers and visitors visited the Two Holy Mosques during the month of Rabi' Al-Akhir 1447 AH. This remarkable figure highlights the continued spiritual importance of Makkah and Madinah for Muslims worldwide and the Kingdom’s commitment to ensuring a smooth pilgrimage experience.

Pilgrims and Visitors at the Grand Mosque

At the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the number of visitors reached 4,197,055, showing the strong devotion of Muslims who travel from around the world to perform prayers and Umrah. Out of these, 22,786 worshippers were blessed to pray inside the sacred area of Hijr Ismail (Al-Hateem), a site of deep religious significance.

The number of ccperformers during this month reached 2,887,516, reflecting the growing demand for performing the holy ritual even outside the Ramadan season. The Kingdom’s efficient management and modern facilities have made the pilgrimage easier and more comfortable for millions.

Large Crowds at the Prophet’s Mosque

The Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah also welcomed an impressive number of visitors — totaling 8,179,085 people during the month. Among them, 355,532 worshippers had the honor of praying inside Al-Rawdah Al-Sharifah, which is considered one of the most sacred places in Islam.

Additionally, 478,403 visitors offered greetings and peace upon Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his two Companions, Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq and Umar ibn Al-Khattab. This act of respect and love remains one of the most cherished traditions for every visitor to the Prophet’s Mosque.

Use of Smart Technology for Crowd Management

The General Authority emphasized the growing role of technology and innovation in managing large crowds effectively. At the main entrances of both mosques, sensor readers and smart systems have been installed to count and monitor visitors in real-time.

These advanced systems help track crowd flow, entry points, and movement patterns, allowing authorities to ensure safety, comfort, and smooth access for all visitors. The data collected supports quick decision-making and improves coordination among operational teams.

Supporting Partnerships and Coordination

The General Authority stated that its success in managing the huge number of pilgrims is due to close cooperation with various government entities. These partnerships aim to enhance crowd management, security, and health services within the Two Holy Mosques.

Through this collaboration, the Kingdom ensures that all visitors — whether performing Umrah, praying, or visiting — receive a safe, organized, and peaceful environment for worship.

Enhancing Visitor Experience

The authority continues to improve infrastructure, cleanliness, and accessibility around the Two Holy Mosques. From expanding entry gates and prayer areas to maintaining air-conditioning systems and providing shaded walkways, every detail is designed to enhance the spiritual experience of the faithful.

Special care is also given to elderly and disabled pilgrims, with dedicated routes, wheelchairs, and assistance services available around the clock. These efforts reflect Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to serving all visitors equally and compassionately.

This achievement aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to welcome more visitors and pilgrims by improving religious tourism and enhancing spiritual experiences. The Kingdom aims to make every visit memorable, safe, and spiritually fulfilling.

By integrating modern technology, expanding facilities, and ensuring efficient service delivery, the authorities continue to make Makkah and Madinah among the most well-managed religious destinations in the world.

A Month of Spiritual Renewal

The month of Rabi' Al-Akhir witnessed not just numbers but countless moments of faith, devotion, and unity among Muslims from across the globe. Every visitor came with prayers, hopes, and gratitude, strengthening the timeless bond of faith that connects the global Muslim community.
