CMU-Q Hosts Record-Breaking Marhaba Tartans Event for Admits

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q), affiliated with Qatar Foundation, recently organized its annual Marhaba Tartans event, aimed at introducing newly admitted students to the university ahead of their study commitments.

This year saw unprecedented interest in CMU-Q, with over 3,000 applicants vying for a place. In response to this enthusiasm, the university expanded its first-year cohort to 140 students, a 20% increase from the previous admission cycle.

During the event, CMU-Q Dean Michael Trick addressed the new admits, expressing his congratulations. He stated, “Class of 2030, you have distinguished yourselves and earned a spot at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar. Your hard work in high school shows your curiosity, determination, and creativity. Congratulations to you all!”

CMU-Q provides five undergraduate programs: artificial intelligence, biological sciences, business administration, computer science, and information systems. The admission criteria at the Qatar campus align closely with those at Carnegie Mellon’s main campus in Pittsburgh, USA, and students meet the same degree requirements, receiving degrees awarded by CMU Pittsburgh.

The Marhaba Tartans event served as an invaluable opportunity for the admitted students to immerse themselves in the academic culture at CMU-Q, meet faculty and fellow students, and gain insights into their chosen programs before making their final enrollment choices.
