The Royal Saudi Air Defense Force has officially launched the first unit of the THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) missile system. A special ceremony was held at the Air Defense Forces Institute in Jeddah to mark this big achievement, as announced by the Saudi Ministry of Defense.
This event is a major step forward for the Kingdom’s national defense. The system was officially added to Saudi Arabia’s military after passing all the important tests and after soldiers finished their training on how to use it effectively inside the country.
The ceremony was led by Lieutenant General Mazyad Al-Amro, who is the Commander of the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces. During the event, he handed over the unit’s flag to the commander of the 1st Air Defense Group. This act officially marked the THAAD system as ready for real military use.
THAAD is one of the world’s most advanced missile defense systems. It is designed to detect and destroy incoming missiles high in the sky before they can hit the ground. Deploying this system in Saudi Arabia shows the Kingdom’s strong commitment to protecting its land, people, and key facilities from any potential air threats.
The new THAAD system will be used to protect important locations and strategic areas across the country. It is part of a bigger defense plan that Saudi Arabia has been working on to strengthen its air defense system and stay prepared for any future threats.
Before the system was launched in the Kingdom, Saudi air defense personnel went through intensive training in the United States. The soldiers completed special courses at Fort Bliss in Texas, where they learned how to operate and maintain the THAAD system properly. The first and second groups of THAAD trainees successfully completed their training there, showing how serious Saudi Arabia is about building strong defense skills.
This latest move is seen as a big step for Saudi Arabia’s military growth. It also shows the country’s efforts to keep up with modern defense technology and maintain safety across its borders.
The deployment of THAAD also helps Saudi Arabia improve its cooperation with its allies, especially the United States, since the system was developed by American defense companies. The training and technology sharing show a strong defense partnership between the two countries.
