The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources (MIM) organised “Saudi Day at LME Week 2025” in London to showcase the Kingdom’s growing role as a global mining hub. The event aimed to attract international investments and highlight the full value chain—from exploration to production—supporting Saudi Vision 2030.
Reforms and Achievements in Mining
Vice Minister for Mining Affairs Eng. Khalid Al-Mudaifer reviewed the Kingdom’s progress, including legislative reforms, enhanced exploration programs, and initiatives to encourage private-sector participation. He emphasized that mining is now a key driver of economic transformation, alongside energy and petrochemicals.
Mineral Wealth and Investments
Saudi Arabia’s mineral resources are valued at over SAR9.4 trillion. Exploration activities have expanded significantly, with 133 companies active by 2023, and SAR102 billion spent on exploration in 2024. These steps demonstrate the Kingdom’s commitment to building a robust and sustainable mining sector.
Global Recognition and Rankings
The Kingdom’s mining achievements have gained international recognition. Saudi Arabia ranked 23rd globally in investment attractiveness, first in political stability, fifth in socio-economic agreements, and seventh in environmental regulations. These rankings highlight the country’s strong governance and investment potential.
Panel Discussions and Key Insights
The event featured discussions with leading mining executives, including insights on transforming operations, expanding global partnerships, and developing resilient supply chains. Leaders highlighted opportunities in mineral investment, technological adoption, and sustainable mining practices.
Innovation and Sustainable Practices
The exhibition showcased the Kingdom’s mining capabilities, modern infrastructure, integrated value chains, and the use of AI-powered geophysical technologies. Advanced practices such as automation, energy efficiency, emissions reduction, recycling, and green metals were highlighted as part of the Kingdom’s commitment to sustainable mining.
The event concluded with a focus on the upcoming 5th Future Minerals Forum (FMF) in Riyadh, scheduled for January 13–15. The forum will gather global mining executives and ministers to discuss innovation, investment, and sustainability, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s position as a leading hub for minerals.
Saudi Arabia’s participation in LME Week 2025 reflects its dedication to strengthening international collaboration and attracting global investment. The Kingdom continues to develop its mining sector as a strategic driver of economic growth, technological innovation, and sustainable development.
