Saudi Aramco Helicopter Crash Kills 14 in Ras Tanura

Post by : Bianca Haleem

A helicopter operated by Saudi Aramco crashed in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday morning, killing all 14 people on board. The incident was confirmed by Saudi Arabia's official Saudi Press Agency (SPA), citing a statement from the Ministry of Energy.

All of the victims were Saudi nationals. Authorities have not yet identified the cause of the crash, and an official investigation is currently underway.

Helicopter Crashes in Ras Tanura

According to the Ministry of Energy, the Saudi Aramco helicopter crashed at approximately 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026, in Ras Tanura.

In its statement, the ministry said: "The Ministry of Energy regrets to announce that a helicopter operated by Saudi Aramco crashed in Ras Tanura on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at approximately 6:00 am. The accident resulted in the martyrdom of all 14 individuals on board, all of whom were Saudi nationals."

The crash claimed the lives of every person on the aircraft.

Investigation Into the Cause Underway

Officials have not confirmed what caused the helicopter to crash.

Reports stated that the relevant authorities have started an investigation to determine the exact reason behind the accident.

According to reports: "Investigations are underway, with the participation of relevant authorities, to determine the causes of the helicopter crash."

No additional details about the investigation or the condition of the aircraft have been released.

Ras Tanura's Importance to Saudi Oil Operations

The crash took place in Ras Tanura, located on the eastern coast near the Strait of Hormuz. The area is one of Saudi Arabia's key oil export locations.

Saudi Aramco had resumed crude oil loading at the Ras Tanura terminal on Friday after operations had been suspended for nearly four months because of the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran in the Middle East.

Oil Exports Resume After Regional Conflict

Saudi Arabia, the world's largest oil exporter, has been increasing oil and gas exports along with other producers in the region. The move came as Middle Eastern energy producers accelerated shipments ahead of an interim agreement aimed at halting the conflict between the United States and Iran.

The helicopter crash occurred shortly after oil loading operations resumed at the important Ras Tanura terminal.
