Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah chaired a high-level ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution. The meeting was held in partnership with the European Union and the Kingdom of Norway on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly session.
Purpose of the Gathering
Prince Faisal opened the session by highlighting the importance of transforming international consensus into actionable commitments. He noted that the meeting follows one year after launching the Global Alliance and comes days after the adoption of the New York Declaration, which represents historic global support for ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state.
Turning Declarations into Action
The minister emphasized that declarations alone are insufficient. He stressed the need for clear time-bound commitments, follow-up mechanisms, and accountability to ensure real changes on the ground, particularly in ending occupation and related aggression against Palestinian territories.
Recognition of Palestine
Referring to the Peace Summit co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, Prince Faisal highlighted growing international recognition of the State of Palestine. He warned that the reality of occupation continues to escalate into human rights violations, including attacks on Gaza and the West Bank, threats to holy sites, and infringements on the sovereignty of neighboring Arab countries.
Goals of the Alliance Meeting
Prince Faisal outlined the objectives of the meeting: to coordinate global efforts, establish executive mechanisms, define progress indicators, and ensure accountability. The meeting also focused on sustaining diplomatic work in regional and international capitals to strengthen the implementation of the Two-State Solution.
Affirming Palestinian Territory
He reiterated that Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, form an indivisible Palestinian territory. Prince Faisal strongly opposed any annexation, settlement expansion, or forced displacement. He called for empowering the Palestinian Authority and supporting Arab-Islamic recovery and reconstruction plans.
International Accountability Mechanism
The minister stressed the need for a global accountability mechanism with clear timelines to monitor progress in achieving a just resolution. He emphasized that Saudi Arabia will continue leading diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Attendees of the Meeting
The meeting was attended by prominent Saudi diplomats, including Princess Reema bint Bandar, Deputy Minister Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Rassi, Permanent Representative Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, and Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Manal Radwan. Their participation reinforced Saudi Arabia’s active role in international diplomacy for Palestinian rights.
Commitment to Peace and Stability
Prince Faisal concluded by affirming that Saudi Arabia remains committed to a just and lasting peace in the region. The Kingdom aims to ensure shared security, prosperity, and stability while supporting the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
