Sharjah and Belarus Explore New Cultural Partnerships

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Sharjah Department of Government Relations (DGR) recently met with the Consulate General of Belarus in the UAE to discuss ways to strengthen cultural cooperation. The meeting focused on enhancing ties between Sharjah and various Belarusian cities through new projects in art, heritage, and creative exchange. Both sides agreed that cultural collaboration can serve as a bridge of friendship and understanding between their peoples.

The discussions were led by Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the DGR, and Aliaksei Zhaldybin, Consul-General of Belarus to the UAE. Sheikh Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of DGR, was also present at the meeting. The participants reviewed ways to deepen partnerships that promote shared values, creativity, and long-term cooperation between the two sides. The meeting was held as part of Sharjah’s broader efforts to strengthen international partnerships through cultural diplomacy.

A key outcome of the meeting was the discussion of plans for a joint cultural event that would celebrate both Belarusian and Emirati traditions. The event aims to feature traditional music, art exhibitions, and cuisine from both nations. The organisers hope it will become an annual event that brings together artists, musicians, and cultural institutions. It will also provide an opportunity for residents and visitors in the UAE to experience Belarusian heritage and for Belarusian audiences to learn more about Emirati culture.

Another major topic was the development of exchange programmes between artists and cultural institutions in both countries. These exchanges will allow emerging and established artists to share their work, collaborate on projects, and learn from each other’s traditions. Such initiatives will also promote cultural tourism and help strengthen people-to-people relations. Both sides expressed optimism about how these exchanges could encourage creativity and mutual understanding.

Speaking after the meeting, Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi said, “Our discussions with the Consulate General of Belarus are a strategic step for Sharjah. By encouraging artistic collaboration and institutional exchange, we are building lasting bridges between our two cultures. The foundation we laid today is not just for cooperation but for a sustained dialogue that celebrates our shared values and enriches both societies.”

Sharjah has long been recognised as a leading centre of culture and knowledge in the Arab world. Under the guidance of its leadership, the emirate continues to support international cooperation through art, literature, and heritage. The meeting with Belarus aligns with Sharjah’s ongoing mission to promote mutual respect, dialogue, and understanding through culture. It also supports the UAE’s national vision of expanding soft power and global partnerships through cultural diplomacy.

The discussions between Sharjah and Belarus highlight a growing international recognition of culture as a tool for sustainable development and peace. By focusing on shared human values, artistic collaboration, and education, both sides aim to create programmes that benefit future generations. These efforts will also help enhance the visibility of Sharjah as a global cultural hub and strengthen Belarus’s engagement with the Arab world.

The meeting between the Sharjah Department of Government Relations and the Consulate General of Belarus marks another milestone in the UAE’s journey to expand cultural diplomacy. Through initiatives like joint festivals, artist exchanges, and educational programmes, the two sides are working to create opportunities for continuous learning and cooperation. Both Sharjah and Belarus have expressed their commitment to ensuring that the cultural dialogue established in this meeting will continue to grow stronger in the years ahead.
