Sharjah International Book Fair 2025 Celebrates Books and Culture

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The 44th Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2025) will be held under the inspiring theme ‘Between You and a Book’ from November 5 to 16, 2025, at Expo Centre Sharjah. Organised by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), the globally renowned event will bring together more than 2,350 publishers and exhibitors representing 118 countries. Each year, the fair stands as one of the world’s largest gatherings for literature, culture, and learning, connecting readers, writers, and publishers from across the world.

This year’s fair will feature over 1,200 events and activities with the participation of 250 guests from 66 countries, including well-known authors, artists, and intellectuals. For the first time, 10 nations—Iceland, Jamaica, Nigeria, Mali, Chad, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea, Senegal, and Vietnam—will join the cultural programme, adding even more global diversity to the event.

Greece as the Guest of Honour

This year, Greece will take centre stage as the Guest of Honour, offering visitors a chance to explore the country’s literary and cultural legacy. The Greek National Pavilion, designed in the style of ancient temples, will showcase over 600 titles from 58 publishers. It will also host the special exhibition “Greek Literature: The Long Journey,” which celebrates Greek literary history and the translation of Greek works into Arabic and other languages.

More than 70 Greek writers, poets, academics, and artists will take part in the fair through workshops, musical performances, and theatre inspired by famous poet Yannis Ritsos. There will also be activities for children to learn about the Greek language and culture. Visitors can enjoy Greek cuisine prepared by renowned chef Alexandros Sperchos, and joint sessions between Greek and Emirati writers will highlight cultural dialogue and cooperation.

The Vision Behind SIBF

During a press conference at SBA headquarters, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of the Sharjah Book Authority, said that this year’s theme reflects the deep and personal relationship between people and books. He explained that each book becomes a part of a reader’s life story and helps them discover new worlds and ideas.

Al Ameri noted that the book fair continues to reflect the vision of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who believes that books serve as bridges between cultures and civilizations. He also praised H.H. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SBA, for her role in promoting Sharjah as a global hub of knowledge and creativity.

Cultural Programmes and Global Collaboration

SIBF 2025 will feature 1,224 Arab and 1,126 international publishers, offering visitors access to a wide range of literature and ideas. The cultural programme includes over 300 sessions with 158 guests from 40 countries, including 66 international and 62 Arab authors, as well as 30 Emirati speakers.

New additions like the Pop-Up Academy will host 24 sessions led by experts in literature, media, art, and technology. These sessions aim to inspire creativity and connect with younger audiences.

In partnership with Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, the fair will be covered across multiple media channels, including Sharjah TV, Al Sharqiya TV, Al Wusta TV, and Pulse 95 Radio, allowing viewers around the world to follow the events live.

Supporting the Publishing Industry

Running alongside the fair, the 15th Sharjah Publishers Conference will be held from November 2–4, 2025, featuring 30 workshops and business meetings for publishing professionals. It will gather global leaders, including H.H. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, to discuss the future of publishing.

Additionally, the 12th Sharjah International Library Conference, taking place from November 8–10, 2025, will bring together over 400 librarians and information professionals in collaboration with the American Library Association (ALA).

A Global Platform for Knowledge

The Sharjah International Book Fair 2025 reaffirms Sharjah’s role as a cultural leader that celebrates books, learning, and creativity. With its global participation, rich programming, and strong partnerships, the fair remains a beacon for dialogue and discovery—where cultures meet, ideas flourish, and the love of reading continues to grow.
