The Sharjah Department of Culture successfully concluded the 10th Luxor Arab Poetry Festival, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The festival highlighted the cultural and literary heritage of the Arab world and added a new chapter to the “Diwan of the Arabs.”
The festival’s closing ceremony was held in the open-air theatre at Luxor Temple Square. It was attended by key figures, including Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture; Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of Cultural Affairs; Dr. Ahmed Mohy Hamza, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Luxor University; Hussein Al Qabbahi, Director of the Poetry House; and a large audience of poetry enthusiasts and creators.
Organized by the Sharjah Department of Culture in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, the four-day festival featured over 140 poets and creators from across Egypt. The event showcased a rich variety of poetic works, celebrating humanistic, national, and emotional themes, while fostering creativity and cultural exchange between countries.
In his closing speech, Dr. Ahmed Mohy Hamza praised Sharjah’s cultural contributions, supported by H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. He lauded the Poetry Houses initiative, calling them “landmarks” that nurture creativity and provide a vibrant platform for Arab literary and artistic talent. Dr. Hamza also emphasized the importance of the decade-long collaboration with Luxor University in supporting young talent and developing cultural partnerships.
The festival’s final day began with Al Owais and Al Qaseer inaugurating a visual arts exhibition at Luxor University. The exhibition featured more than 70 works by over 70 artists, including students from the Faculty of Fine Arts. The artworks ranged from painting and metalwork to composite materials, showcasing creative ideas, technical skills, and philosophical concepts.
Al Owais, Al Qaseer, and Dr. Hamza toured the exhibition, learning about the artists’ techniques, creative processes, and the messages behind their works. The visit concluded with several students receiving awards for their achievements in the university’s visual arts competition, highlighting excellence in both creativity and technical skill.
Following the exhibition, Luxor University hosted a poetry evening where poets presented works covering humanistic, national, and emotional themes. The event reinforced cultural dialogue and celebrated the literary talents of the Arab world, marking a successful conclusion to the 10th Luxor Arab Poetry Festival.
