Sharjah Supports Sudanese Publishers with Fee Waiver at Fair

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and with supervision by H.H. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), Sudanese publishers have been given a special benefit. The SBA has decided to waive all participation fees for them at the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair. This move highlights Sharjah’s commitment to supporting Arab publishers, even during difficult times.

The initiative comes at a time when many Arab countries face economic and humanitarian challenges. By waiving fees, Sharjah ensures that Sudanese publishers can continue producing knowledge and sharing their cultural works. It also allows Sudanese writers to reach wider audiences across the region. The move underlines the belief that books are a key tool to preserve cultural memory and identity.

H.H. Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi explained that the decision reflects the Ruler of Sharjah’s vision. She said knowledge production must continue regardless of circumstances. Supporting Arab publishers in countries facing difficulties is part of Sharjah’s cultural responsibility. The initiative helps ensure books continue to act as bridges between different communities in the Arab world.

The waiver also emphasizes the importance of Sudanese culture in the Arab world. H.H. Sheikha Bodour stated that the initiative aims to give Sudanese publishers opportunities to continue their work and maintain a strong presence at Arab book fairs. This reflects Sharjah’s dedication to promoting cultural exchange and ensuring that creative talents from Sudan have access to international audiences.

The new measure builds on a series of steps Sharjah has taken in recent years to support Arab publishers affected by economic or political pressures. These steps are based on the belief that books play a critical role in preserving cultural identity. They also protect the intellectual heritage of the region, making it accessible for future generations.

By waiving fees for Sudanese publishers, Sharjah creates a platform for them to showcase their work alongside other Arab countries. It encourages collaboration and helps sustain the publishing industry even under challenging circumstances. The initiative demonstrates Sharjah’s leadership in supporting Arab literature and its long-term mission to strengthen regional knowledge production.

Through this initiative, Sharjah highlights the social and cultural role of books. They are not just items for reading, but tools that connect communities and preserve the region’s heritage. Sudanese publishers now have the opportunity to share their culture, ideas, and creativity on an international stage. This ensures that their voices continue to be part of the broader Arab literary landscape.

The 44th Sharjah International Book Fair will showcase Sudanese publishers without any fee barriers. This initiative reflects Sharjah’s ongoing efforts to support Arab publishers, maintain cultural heritage, and inspire creative talent. By helping publishers during difficult times, Sharjah continues to play a leading role in the region’s cultural and literary development.
