Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed a delegation from Khalifa University to discuss recent milestones in scientific research and technology development. The group, headed by Ebrahim Al Hajri, comprised senior academic figures, researchers, and administrative leaders.
In the session, Sheikh Hazza was updated on various ongoing projects across the university’s colleges and specialized research centers. The presentations included advancements in engineering, computing, medical sciences, cybersecurity, and innovative technologies. The discussions underscored the significant role that scientific research plays in realizing the UAE’s vision for a knowledge-driven economy rooted in innovation.
The team also showcased advancements in satellite-based remote sensing and AI technologies stemming from the university’s Environmental and Geophysical Sciences Laboratory. Researchers illustrated how these systems effectively identify underground structures, archaeological sites, and geological formations without the need for direct surveys. This technology has seen successful applications in diverse locations across the UAE, particularly in key archaeological areas in Al Ain.
University officials remarked on the pivotal role of AI and machine learning in enhancing data analysis and improving the accuracy of environmental and geological studies. Demonstrations highlighted how AI-driven systems can analyze intricate satellite data, aiding scientific breakthroughs, climate research, and emergency preparedness. The delegation further highlighted the university’s state-of-the-art ground-penetrating radar network, which consists of 20 specialized instruments distributed across campuses. These tools facilitate field research and assist in validating discoveries made via remote sensing. Additionally, researchers outlined the technology's capabilities in predicting floods, assessing weather risks, and planning for disaster responses, thereby enhancing public safety and infrastructure management.
