UAE President Raises Flag on National Flag Day Ceremony

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan led the nation in celebrating UAE Flag Day by raising the national flag at Qasr Al Hosn in Abu Dhabi. The occasion is one of the most meaningful national events, symbolizing unity, loyalty, and pride in the UAE’s identity. Each year, Flag Day serves as a reminder of the collective spirit and shared responsibility that unite the people of the Emirates under one flag.

The flag-raising ceremony was held at the historic Qasr Al Hosn, one of Abu Dhabi’s oldest and most significant landmarks. The event began with the playing of the UAE national anthem, filling the atmosphere with emotion and pride. The national flag, fluttering high against the sky, reflected the strength and unity of the UAE’s people and leadership.

Among the special guests at the ceremony were a group of retired Emirati service personnel. Their presence symbolized the nation’s deep gratitude for those who have dedicated their lives to serving and protecting the country. These veterans, who played vital roles in shaping the UAE’s progress, were honored for their lasting contributions to national development. Sheikh Mohamed’s decision to include them in the celebration underscored the UAE’s respect and appreciation for its citizens who have served with honor and distinction.

During the event, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the values that the UAE flag represents—unity, loyalty, and national pride. He emphasized that raising the flag on this special day is a tribute to every citizen who has worked tirelessly for the country’s growth and stability. The participation of retired service personnel, he said, reflects the continuity of the UAE’s spirit of dedication from one generation to the next.

Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed that the UAE flag is a powerful symbol of the nation’s unity and the shared vision of its people. It stands for the collective achievements that the country has made over the decades and the strong sense of belonging that connects every Emirati to the nation’s heritage and future. The President noted that each time the flag is raised, it reminds citizens of the sacrifices and hard work that have built the UAE into a model of progress and harmony.

Before the ceremony, Sheikh Mohamed welcomed the retired Emirati service members at Qasr Al Bateen, where they had an opportunity to meet him personally. The group expressed their gratitude and pride in being part of the occasion, describing it as a moment of deep national honor. Sheikh Mohamed shared warm conversations with them, reflecting on their years of service and recalling memorable moments from the country’s past.

Following their meeting at Qasr Al Bateen, Sheikh Mohamed accompanied the group to Qasr Al Hosn for the main ceremony. This gesture represented the connection between the UAE’s leadership and its people, built on mutual respect and a shared commitment to national unity. The journey from one historical palace to another symbolized the bridge between the UAE’s past and present—a journey guided by wisdom, loyalty, and pride.

In his remarks, Sheikh Mohamed stressed that the knowledge and experience of retired citizens are valuable national treasures. Their stories, lessons, and service inspire younger generations to continue building the country’s future with the same spirit of devotion. The President underlined that their contributions form a foundation upon which the UAE continues to grow—guided by values of hard work, sacrifice, and loyalty.

His Highness spoke about the importance of passing on these values to future generations. He said that the dedication and love for the country shown by the veterans serve as a beacon for young Emiratis, motivating them to uphold the same ideals. By honoring those who came before, Sheikh Mohamed emphasized, the UAE ensures that its flag will always fly high, representing unity, determination, and hope.

Flag Day in the UAE is more than just a ceremonial event—it is a celebration of unity and a reaffirmation of the national spirit. It reflects the shared journey of a country that has grown from humble beginnings into a nation admired around the world. Through this celebration, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed once again highlighted the UAE’s commitment to its people, its heritage, and its vision for a peaceful and prosperous future.
