Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum toured Al Barakah Dates Factory, recognized as the largest privately owned dates facility worldwide, situated in Dubai Industrial City.
Spanning over 800,000 square feet, this factory boasts an impressive annual output of 100,000 tonnes, securing its position as a leader in date processing and packaging on the global stage.
During his visit, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the UAE's commitment to bolstering its status as a central hub for cutting-edge food industries. He pointed out initiatives focusing on innovation, effective production frameworks, and enhancing the global competitiveness of local products.
He further highlighted the dates industry as a prime illustration of how the UAE has evolved its agricultural legacy into a modern and lucrative sector that not only drives economic development but also fortifies food security.
Sheikh Mohammed reiterated the UAE's ongoing investments in key sectors, particularly the food industry, to boost production efficiency, implement innovative technologies, and reach international markets.
He remarked on the integral role of the dates sector in reflecting the UAE's cultural identity and vision of fostering sustainable opportunities. He also noted the humanitarian initiatives within this sector aimed at combating malnutrition and advancing global food security.
Accompanied by Malek Al Malek, Sheikh Mohammed received insights from Saleem Mohammed, the factory's founder, and Managing Director Yousuf Saleem Mohammed regarding production techniques, packaging innovations, and the variety of products offered.
The factory proudly exports its products to 97 countries, with significant markets including the US, UK, and Europe.
Launched in 2004, Dubai Industrial City is home to over 350 factories and more than 17,000 employees. Its advantageous location near major transport hubs such as Jebel Ali Port, Al Maktoum International Airport, and Etihad Rail’s freight terminal ensures robust logistics support.
The factory stands as a testament to the success of private-sector investments in the food industry. Founder Saleem Mohammed embarked on his entrepreneurial journey in Dubai back in 1983, eventually venturing into the dates trading and processing sphere in the 1990s.
